Job summary

Vivid Resourcing Ltd in Milan, Italy is seeking an experienced HSE Manager on a contract basis to lead health, safety and environmental management across operations and projects, ensuring compliance with Italian and European legislation.

You will own the HSE management system, conduct risk assessments, audits and incident investigations, develop practical procedures, and collaborate with engineering, site and quality teams to embed a positive safety culture and drive performance.

Qualifications

• Experience leading HSE in industrial, engineering or construction settings.
• Strong knowledge of Italian and European HSE legislation (incl. Legislative Decree 81/2008).
• Experience with HSE management systems (ISO 45001 / ISO 14001).

About the role

Our client is looking for an HSE Manager to join its team in Milan, Italy on a contract basis. The role leads health, safety and environmental management across the organisation's operations and projects, making sure legal requirements are met and that safe working is embedded in day-to-day activity.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the HSE management system and its delivery. That includes risk assessment, audits and inspections, incident investigation and the development of procedures that people can follow in practice. You will be expected to work closely with project and operational teams, challenge unsafe practice constructively and give clear advice that supports delivery as well as compliance.

The organisation needs someone who can take on live responsibilities quickly and contribute from the start of the assignment. You will work alongside engineering, project, site and quality colleagues, supporting a consistent standard of HSE performance across the work.

Main responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and continued development of the HSE management system
• Make sure operations and projects comply with applicable Italian and European health, safety and environmental legislation
• Carry out risk assessments and review method statements, safe systems of work and permit to work arrangements
• Plan and carry out site inspections, audits and HSE walkthroughs, and track actions to close-out
• Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, and report on root causes and corrective actions
• Prepare HSE plans, procedures and reports for project and management teams
• Provide HSE induction, training and toolbox talks to employees, contractors and subcontractors
• Review and monitor contractor HSE performance and compliance
• Monitor HSE performance indicators and report on trends and improvement areas to senior management
• Liaise with clients, authorities and other external stakeholders on HSE matters
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage active reporting and engagement

Requirements

• Proven experience in an HSE Manager role or similar, within an industrial, engineering or construction setting
• Sound knowledge of Italian and European health, safety and environmental legislation, including Legislative Decree 81/2008
• Experience of managing HSE management systems, such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
• Experience of risk assessment, incident investigation and audit processes
• Ability to prepare clear HSE plans, procedures and reports
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to work with site teams, contractors and senior management
• Relevant HSE qualification or equivalent professional standing
• Right to work in Italy
• Able to work from the Milan location
