Job summary

ABB is seeking a Global Application Engineer in Europe to lead microgrid projects, focusing on grid-connected AC/DC systems for industrial and commercial clients. You will engage with customers, R&D and product teams to translate market needs into robust technical solutions.

Role emphasizes hands-on architecture, testing, and pilot deployments with travel. Strong electrical engineering background and experience with AutoCAD/EPLAN, MATLAB Simulink, and technical sales are required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering with 4+ years of experience in microgrid systems.
Experience with microgrid components such as controllers, converters/PCS, battery energy storage and solar PV, including protection.
Ability to read multiline diagrams and technical specifications in AutoCAD or EPLAN.
Technical sales or application engineering towards industrial and commercial customers.
Electrical system design, panel building or project management of microgrid installations.
Knowledge of DC applications and grid codes is a plus.

Responsibilities

Support customers and sales teams from early technical discussions to solution proposals for MG electrical & control systems.
Develop and promote reference architectures and application notes for AC and DC microgrids using ABB’s portfolio.
Plan and manage microgrid installations and pilot projects from design to commissioning support.
Support development, testing and validation of applications, including supplier selection and purchasing.
Collaborate with R&D, product management, digital teams and research centers to translate market needs into developments.
Analyze competitive landscape and market trends to inform mid- and long-term strategy.
