X-ELIO in Rome or Palermo, Italy is seeking a senior electrical engineer to lead the engineering development and grid integration for utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects across the project lifecycle. You will work with internal teams, consultants, EPCs and grid operators to deliver bankable, technically optimized renewables projects.

The role requires 5+ years in renewable energy engineering, strong HV and grid experience, and fluency in Italian and English.

Competenze

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in renewable energy engineering or grid connection processes.
• Strong experience with utility-scale PV projects, HV lines, and substations; BESS valued.
• Fluent Italian and English.

The selected professional will be responsible for leading the engineering development and grid integration activities of utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects in Italy throughout the entire project lifecycle, from development and design to construction and commissioning.

The role is responsible for ensuring technical excellence, cost-effective engineering solutions, successful grid connection execution, and compliance with Italian regulatory requirements. Acting as the key technical interface with internal teams, consultants, EPC contractors, and grid operators, the position plays a critical role in delivering bankable and technically optimized renewable energy projects

What will you do?

• Lead engineering activities during development, design, construction and commissioning phases of solar PV and BESS projects.
• Review and validate conceptual, basic and detailed engineering designs prepared by internal teams and external partners.
• Support technology selection, plant layout optimization and technical due diligence activities.
• Ensure compliance with applicable technical standards, regulations and company requirements.
• Technical Lead grid connection strategy and execution for renewable energy projects in Italy.
• Manage interconnection processes with grid operators, including ENEL and TERNA.
• Supervise the design and optimization of substations, transmission lines and HV connection infrastructure.
• Coordinate activities required to obtain grid permits, energization and operational readiness.
• Perform technical-economic assessments and support CAPEX optimization initiatives.
• Review engineering assumptions, technical specifications and project budgets.
• Identify technical risks, design gaps and optimization opportunities throughout project development and execution.
• Support investment and procurement decisions through technical analysis and engineering recommendations.
• Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning and testing activities.
• Coordinate technical interfaces among EPC contractors, consultants, developers, suppliers and internal teams.
• Prepare technical reports and project updates for management decision-making.
• Lead and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams

What do we need?

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in renewable energy engineering or grid connection processes.
• Strong experience in utility-scale PV projects, HV Lines and Substation; BESS experience is highly valued.
• Knowledge of Italian grid connection procedures, including ENEL and TERNA requirements.
• Experience managing engineering consultants, EPC contractors and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of HV infrastructure, substations and grid integration processes.
• Fluent Italian and English.
