Pillar in Milan is seeking a talented content marketer and writer to own Pillar's voice across blog, newsletter, website pages and campaigns. You will translate complex construction industry topics into clear, engaging Italian copy that resonates with business owners and site managers.
You’ll collaborate with Growth Marketing to shape editorial strategy, run campaigns, and craft sales materials. This is a rare chance to define a voice in a growing software platform used on construction sites
Nearly 5 million people work in Italian construction. Not one of them wakes up wanting to read marketing content.
Your job is to make them read it anyway, and to make them finish it. That means taking the hardest things in this industry, margins, cash that arrives late, labour costs, compliance, and explaining them so clearly that a contractor reading on his phone at 6:30 in the morning understands everything in one pass.
Writing something clever is easy. Making something complicated feel obvious is not. It is also the most valuable thing a writer can do here, because almost nobody is doing it.
If that sounds like the best problem anyone has handed you this year, keep reading.
Milan, on site (Corso XXII Marzo area)
This position requires fluency in both Italian and English. The office speaks English. Everything you write is in Italian.
Full-time, €32.000 – €42.000 + potential equity, based on past experience and potential impact
Italian construction is the backbone of the country's economy and still runs on tools from the last century: job sites that invoice but never collect, spreadsheets everywhere, margins that surface too late to fix.
Pillar is the platform that changes that. Every site under control, profitability in real time, estimates in minutes, invoices reconciled automatically.
We are young, ambitious and moving fast, in Italy and abroad. The ambition: manage one in three construction sites in Europe.
We are not looking for content support. We are looking for the person who takes ownership of Pillar's voice and takes it where we cannot take it today.
This role appears once in a company's life. Early enough that you define the voice instead of inheriting it, late enough that there is a real product, real customers and real distribution behind every line you write.
The bar for your first six months: people in this industry read us because we are the best thing available to them, not because we paid to put it in front of them.
You report to the Growth Marketing Manager and join a team that carries real numbers: the leads that fill the pipeline, the work with sales that turns them into customers, the insight that helps an entire industry understand itself.
Revenue is one outcome. A community around Pillar is the other, and it is the one that compounds. Every team here pulls in the same direction, and words are one of the levers that decide how fast we get there.
Business owners with a radar for nonsense calibrated by twenty years of suppliers who promised. You get three seconds, and if they do not recognise their own problem in them, you have lost them.
Hence the best creative constraint in this job: original without sounding like an agency, sharp without being slick, in plain words with no English loanwords. Nobody is seriously trying with this audience yet.
Our most important organic asset. Articles that rank, and that get read to the end by people with little time and a lot of problems. Real numbers, real examples, never a summary of something published elsewhere.
A weekly appointment with our entire base. No pitch, just content worth the two minutes they give us. It is where our voice comes through most clearly, and it is yours.
Headlines, argument structure, information hierarchy, calls to action. You write the variants, we test them, we iterate.
Email sequences, onboarding and activation flows, product communications. Words that keep working on their own months after you wrote them.
Emails and material supporting the sales team. This is where you find out whether a writer can sell or only write well.
Organic social and brand identity sit with the brand side of marketing, and you will work closely with them. Different surfaces, same voice, one squad: Pillar.
Insights, data and priorities come from us. Knowing that a page converts at one percent is our job. Understanding why the words do not land, and rewriting them so they do, is yours. Short approval loop, autonomy that grows fast.
You can write. Genuinely. Not someone who assembles copy seen elsewhere, someone who starts from a blank page and a problem and produces what did not exist before.
You explain things simply. The best compliment your writing can get here is "now I get it".
You love writing. Not a skill you picked up, something you were doing anyway. A lazy headline irritates you.
You have a voice, and you can change it. A sales email and a long form article do not sound alike, but the same company clearly wrote both.
You know modern technique. PAS is the starting point, not the finish line. Framing, loss aversion, social proof, curiosity gaps, specificity, used because they work.
You look for the angle nobody found. It is almost always the difference between an honest piece and a piece that travels.
You want to get your boots dirty. Job sites, sales calls, a site manager explaining why he hates the software he uses.
You are pragmatic and easy to work with. Speed counts as much as quality. Feedback taken and given without drama, ego at the door.
3 to 5 years as a content marketing specialist focused on writing copy or equivalent, in house, in an agency or freelance
A portfolio that proves writing ability, not output volume
Impeccable Italian: wide vocabulary, solid grammar, an ear for form
Fluent English
Bonus points if you have written for both B2B and B2C, seen the numbers your writing produced, worked in a fast paced startup, or won over an audience nothing like you.
Coming from construction is not a requirement. Arriving from another world means you will see what the rest of us stopped noticing.
We all row in the same direction, like a crew in a boat: when one person accelerates, we all do. We give you direction, tools and clear goals, the initiative starts with you. Fast, direct, no unnecessary bureaucracy, honest feedback.
If you want comfortable and predictable, this is not the place. If you want to build a voice that does not exist yet, in an industry where nobody has seriously tried, it is.
Competitive salary based on experience and impact

Real ownership of the company's voice, not a slot in someone else's editorial calendar
