Position: Welding Fixture Maintenance Technician
Department: Tool Room / Maintenance
Location: Nighoje, Chakan, Pune
Reporting To: Maintenance Engineer / Tool Room In-charge
Job Purpose
To ensure maximum availability, reliability, and accuracy of all robotic and manual welding fixtures through preventive maintenance, breakdown support, and continuous improvement, thereby minimizing production downtime and maintaining product quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of robotic and manual welding fixtures.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain fixture components including clamps, locators, pneumatic cylinders, sensors, limit switches, guide pins, bushes, and stopper mechanisms.
- Diagnose and resolve fixture-related issues during production to minimize downtime.
- Carry out fixture alignment, calibration, and dimensional verification to ensure product quality.
- Modify and improve fixtures to accommodate engineering changes, new models, and process improvements.
- Support production, quality, and welding engineering teams during new product development (NPD), trials, PPAP, and SOP activities.
- Maintain fixture history cards, preventive maintenance schedules, breakdown records, and spare parts inventory.
- Coordinate with Tool Room for fabrication and machining of fixture replacement parts.
- Implement Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, and TPM initiatives to improve fixture reliability and productivity.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with 5S, Safety, ISO 9001, and IATF 16949 requirements.
- Ensure fixtures are production-ready before every shift and changeover.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of robotic welding fixtures (ABB, KUKA, FANUC, or Yaskawa preferred).
- Strong understanding of pneumatic systems, hydraulic components, sensors, solenoid valves, and limit switches.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, fixture layouts, and welding jig designs.
- Hands-on experience in fixture assembly, fitting, alignment, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in using measuring instruments such as Vernier Caliper, Height Gauge, Dial Gauge, and Feeler Gauge.
- Basic welding and fabrication knowledge.
- Root Cause Analysis (5 Why, Fishbone) and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork.
Qualification & Experience
Qualification:
- ITI (Fitter/Tool & Die Maker/Mechanic) or Diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Tool & Die Engineering.
Experience:
- 25 years of experience in welding fixture maintenance within the automotive or sheet metal manufacturing industry.
