Job Summary

We are looking for a Graduate Trainee Mechanical Engineer to join our Purchase Department in the Boiler and Pressure Vessel manufacturing industry. The candidate will be trained in technical procurement, vendor coordination, material planning, purchase documentation, and understanding engineering specifications and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand engineering drawings, BOMs, material specifications, and technical requirements.
• Assist in procurement of raw materials, plates, pipes, tubes, fittings, flanges, forgings, fasteners, welding consumables, and bought-out items.
• Prepare and send RFQs (Request for Quotations) to approved and potential suppliers.
• Collect and compare supplier quotations based on price, quality, delivery, and technical requirements.
• Coordinate with Design, Production, Quality, Stores, and Planning departments for material requirements.
• Prepare and process Purchase Requisitions (PRs), Purchase Orders (POs), and related documents.
• Follow up with vendors regarding order confirmation, manufacturing status, inspection, dispatch, and delivery.
• Maintain purchase records, vendor data, quotation comparisons, and order status reports.
• Assist in vendor identification, evaluation, and development.
• Understand Material Test Certificates (MTCs), inspection requirements, and quality documentation.
• Coordinate with the Quality/Inspection team for third-party inspection (TPI) wherever applicable.
• Develop knowledge of applicable ASME, ASTM, IS, and other relevant material/specification standards.
• Support cost-saving and timely procurement initiatives.
• Perform other procurement-related activities assigned by the Purchase Manager.

Required Skills

• Basic knowledge of Mechanical Engineering and manufacturing processes.
• Understanding of engineering materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, etc.
• Ability to read basic engineering drawings and BOMs.
• Basic knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and ERP/SAP is desirable.
• Good communication and vendor coordination skills.
• Analytical and negotiation skills.
• Willingness to learn technical procurement and pressure-vessel manufacturing processes.
• Good documentation and follow-up skills.

Preferred Knowledge

Knowledge of the following will be an advantage:

• Boiler and pressure vessel components.
