Job summary

Contek Automation in Bengaluru is seeking a skilled SPM Design Engineer to drive end-to-end design and development of Special Purpose Machines, stacker cranes, conveyors, and customized automation systems from concept to commissioning.

You will create 3D models and detailed drawings, perform FEA and GD&T, collaborate with automation and production teams, and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 while maintaining documentation and PDM/PLM processes.

Qualifications

• DME/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automobile/Industrial/Production Engineering required.
• Proficiency in CAD tools like Creo Parametric and AutoCAD 2D is mandatory.
• Strong fundamentals in machine design, hydraulics, pneumatics, and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Design Special Purpose Machines, jigs, fixtures and automation systems per RFQ/URS.
• Create 3D models, assemblies and 2D drawings with BOM.
• Perform design calculations and present concepts to customers.
• Conduct FEA for critical structures and ensure safety factors as per IS standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support installation and commissioning.

Role & responsibilities

About The Role: We are looking for a highly skilled and innovative SPM Design Engineer to join our team at Contek. You will be responsible for end-to-end design and development of Special Purpose Machines, Stacker Cranes, Conveyors, and customized Automation Systems from concept to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Development

• Design Special Purpose Machines (SPM), jigs, fixtures, and automation systems as per customer RFQ / URS
• Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings with BOM
• Perform design calculations - Structural strength, deflection, motor/gearbox selection, pneumatic/hydraulic sizing, bearing life, shaft design Develop concepts, layout, GA drawings and present to customers

2. Engineering & Analysis

• Perform FEA for critical structures (ANSYS / Creo Simulate) and ensure FOS as per FEM / IS 807 / IS 3177
• Apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5), tolerance stack-up analysis, and DFM/DFA principles
• Material selection for fabrication, sheet metal, and machined components

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Automation, Electrical, Controls, Production, Purchase and Service teams
• Support prototyping, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting at shop floor and customer site
• Participate in design reviews (DFMEA) and provide technical support for installation & commissioning

4. Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare Design calculations, BOM, technical datasheets, O&M manuals
• Ensure compliance with industry standards: ISO 9001
• Maintain drawing release process via PDM/PLM

Required Skills & Qualifications

5. Education: DME / B.E. / B.Tech / in Mechanical / Mechatronics / Automobile / Industrial / Production Engineering

6. Software Proficiency

Mandatory: CAD: PTC Creo Parametric, AutoCAD 2D

7. Technical Skills:

• Strong fundamentals in SOM, TOM, Machine Design, Hydraulics & Pneumatics
• Expertise in Fabrication structures, Sheet Metal design, Machined components
• Hands-on with Power Transmission - Motors, Gearboxes, Chains, Timing belts, Linear guides, Ball screws
• Knowledge of Pneumatics (SMC, Festo), Hydraulics, Sensors, Safety systems
• In-depth knowledge of GD&T, Welding symbols, Surface finish, Heat treatment
• Estimation of cost, weight optimization, and Value Engineering
• Industry Standards Knowledge: IS 807, IS 3177, IS 800, FEM 1.001, DIN, ISO standards for cranes
• CE Marking documentation, Risk Assessment as per EN ISO 12100

8. Soft Skills:

• Excellent problem-solving, analytical and communication skills
• Ability to handle 2-3 projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to travel for customer meetings and site commissioning
