Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Vice President of Engineering to lead our tech teams and drive the strategic direction of our technological development. Experience managing large‑scale SaaS platforms, driving structural and operational transformation, implementing upskilling programs, and creating engineering excellence frameworks is essential. A deep understanding of core technologies such as Java, .NET, AWS, Kubernetes, and RDS is required. While Velsera is a remote‑first company, we prefer a candidate located in Pune, as most of our technology teams operate from that office.
Responsibilities
- Lead the transformation and modernization of engineering systems into modular digital products with a focus on separation of concerns, microservices, and scalability.
- Own and drive resourcing and roadmap decisions, balancing technology investments, regulatory obligations, and revenue‑generation opportunities such as licensing and customization.
- Transition vendor‑staffed teams to Velsera’s internal teams through a transfer model or parallel build & hire approach.
- Deliver high‑quality software products across multiple teams, unifying modular components under a single digital product umbrella.
- Provide regional engineering leadership in India, with potential dotted‑line reporting responsibilities to wider technical leadership.
- Create scalable frameworks for managing incoming technology requests, prioritizing them, and roadmap planning in collaboration with delivery and product organizations.
- Define and implement the strategic technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and organizational moat.
- Communicate technology strategy, progress, and key decisions to stakeholders, including C‑level executives.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Java, .NET, AWS, Kubernetes, and RDS.
- Cloud‑native development experience, especially designing and scaling SaaS platforms.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles, including modularization, microservices, separation of concerns, and scalability.
- Proven track record in senior engineering leadership roles (VP‑level or equivalent).
- Experience defining and executing strategic technology roadmaps aligned with business goals.
- Ability to lead large, distributed engineering teams while maintaining high performance and alignment.
- Experience driving large‑scale structural and operational transformations in tech organizations.
- Skilled in transitioning from vendor‑based models to in‑house engineering teams.
- Demonstrated success implementing engineering excellence frameworks and agile transformations.
- Strong background in upskilling, cross‑skilling, and building high‑performing teams.
- Ability to attract, retain, and develop top engineering talent across geographies.
- Experience leading organizational development programs that align team growth with evolving business needs.
- Comfortable working at the intersection of technology, product, and business.
- Experience balancing multiple revenue streams such as licensing and customization work.
- Excellent communication and executive reporting skills.
- Capability to translate complex technical topics into business‑relevant narratives for C‑level stakeholders.
- Proven ability to align engineering goals with broader business strategies and communicate progress effectively.
