Job summary

Oldendorff Carriers is seeking a seasoned professional to lead voyage optimization quality for assigned voyages and fleets from our Mumbai centre. You will fuse voyage economics, vessel performance and operational insight to challenge assumptions and deliver actionable recommendations to Operations and Chartering.

The role requires strong expertise in shipping operations with a track record in lead or senior roles.

Qualifications

  • Six or more years of experience in shipping operations, voyage management, vessel performance or marine operations.
  • Experience in a senior or lead capacity is required.
  • Experience as a senior vessel operator, senior voyage or performance analyst, or former sailing officer with shore-based experience is preferred.
  • A maritime, engineering, commercial or other relevant qualification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own optimization quality for assigned fleets and identify opportunities to protect earnings, reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and improve voyage results.
  • Monitor live voyages across speed, consumption, port calls, delays, weather impact and operational exceptions.
  • Investigate deviations, challenge assumptions and turn incomplete or conflicting information into clear operational recommendations.
  • Align relevant stakeholders before action is taken and lead difficult or high-impact optimization cases.
  • Provide early insight to Operations and Chartering before performance issues become more costly.
  • Improve analytical methods, automation, dashboards, reporting standards and the use of AI-enabled decision support.
  • Lead reviews relating to speed and consumption compliance, hull inspections and chartered-in vessel performance.
  • Mentor junior colleagues, review work quality and build consistent decision-making across the team.
  • Collaborate with Masters, operators, chartering managers and performance colleagues across global offices.
  • Work a rotating 24/7 shift pattern, including nights and weekends, with clear escalation and handover.

Founded in 1921, OLDENDORFF CARRIERS combines its history as a German shipowner with the network of one of the world's leading drybulk operators. We currently control some 750 chartered and owned vessels of 67 mio tdw, and we carry around 330 mio tons of raw materials and semi-finished products across the seven seas each year.   • Ability to make sound, timely recommendations using incomplete information and communicate the level of confidence clearly.
  • Strong stakeholder management, coaching and work-review capability.
  • Ability to set and maintain reporting, analytical and quality standards for a developing team.
  • Practical experience improving desk processes, analytical methods, automation and AI adoption.
Required / Preferred Education and Experience
