Job summary

Oldendorff Carriers in Mumbai seeks a senior routing and voyage-optimisation leader to guide the Voyage Optimisation Centre. You will oversee complex routing decisions, support Masters at sea and promote data-informed practices across the fleet.

The role requires Master Mariner CoC, command experience, and proven shore-based routing expertise. A rotating 24/7 schedule and cross-functional collaboration are part of the duties.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication with Masters, routing colleagues and shore-based stakeholders.
  • Ability to use performance data, optimisation systems and AI-enabled tools to improve decisions and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and adjust ocean passages using live meteorological and ocean data, balancing safety, voyage time and fuel efficiency.
  • Monitor vessel speed, fuel consumption, weather exposure and voyage performance against the expected plan.
  • Identify differences between expected and actual performance, investigate the causes and recommend suitable action.
  • Work closely with Masters at sea, providing clear routing advice while respecting the Master’s authority and professional judgement.
  • Maintain accurate voyage records, routing updates, performance reports and handover notes.
  • Support fleet-wide improvements in routing, voyage optimisation, fuel efficiency and emissions reduction.
  • Work a rotating 24/7 shift pattern, including nights and weekends, to provide continuous support to vessels.
  • Use available optimisation, analysis and AI tools responsibly, and contribute ideas to improve routing processes and systems.
  • Mentor Assistant Routing Managers and Routing Managers, supporting consistent decision-making and knowledge sharing across shifts.
  • Provide senior guidance when urgent, complex or high-impact routing decisions are required.

About the role

You will provide senior operational and technical leadership within our Voyage Optimisation Centre in Mumbai. Alongside managing complex routing decisions, you will guide the routing team, support Masters during difficult conditions, and help build consistent, data-informed voyage optimisation practices across the fleet.
