1. Job Summary

We are looking for a VMC Machine Operator with 3–4 years of practical experience in operating Vertical Machining Centres (VMCs). The candidate should have a basic understanding of CNC machining, cutting tools, engineering drawings, and measuring instruments.

The role involves operating VMC machines as per approved CNC programs and work instructions, loading and unloading components, monitoring machining operations, and ensuring components are machined as per specified dimensions.

The ideal candidate should be technically sound, attentive to detail, safety-conscious, and willing to learn new machining processes.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Operate VMC machines using approved CNC programs and work instructions.
• Load and unload components and ensure proper clamping and positioning before machining.
• Understand basic machine operations, including X, Y, and Z axes, spindle operation, tool movement, and automatic tool changing.
• Identify and handle common cutting tools such as end mills, drills, taps, and boring tools.
• Perform basic tool loading, tool changes, and tool-offset adjustments as per instructions and authorization.
• Understand basic CNC codes and the purpose of commonly used G-codes and M-codes.
• Read and understand basic mechanical engineering drawings and component dimensions.
• Use measuring instruments such as vernier calipers and outside micrometers to check component dimensions.
• Monitor machining operations and identify common issues such as tool wear, excessive vibration, burrs, and poor surface finish.
• Check coolant levels and maintain basic machine cleanliness and housekeeping.
• Follow prescribed machine operating procedures and safety instructions.
• Report machine alarms, tooling problems, and dimensional deviations to the supervisor.
• Maintain basic production and component inspection records as required.

3. Technical Skills Required

• Practical experience operating a Vertical Machining Centre.
• Basic knowledge of CNC machining principles and machine controls.
• Familiarity with CNC controllers such as Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of work offsets, tool offsets, spindle speed, and feed rate.
• Familiarity with common milling, drilling, tapping, and boring operations.
• Basic knowledge of workholding, fixtures, and component clamping.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and understand dimensional tolerances.
• Basic knowledge of measuring instruments, particularly vernier calipers and micrometers.

4. Educational Qualifications

• ITI in Machinist, Fitter, or a relevant mechanical trade; or
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification.

5. Experience Requirements

• 3–4 years of hands‑on experience operating VMC machines.
• Experience in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Candidates with practical knowledge of CNC controls, tool changes, and basic offset adjustments will be preferred.
