Job summary

Schaeffler is seeking a Specialist Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Compliance to ensure OSS compliance across our product development efforts in Bengaluru, India.

You will interface with engineering and legal teams, review OSS components and licenses, coordinate with the Emobility division on license usage, maintain the FOSS BOM and manage risks related to non‑compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Telecommunication).
• Experience with Open Source software development and design (using C/C++/Java).
• Knowledge of Open Source Software architecture/Platforms (Linux/Eclipse/Android).
• Advanced communication skills for collaboration within international structures.

Specialist Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Compliance (m/f/d)

For our Sustainability and Technical Compliance team, we are looking for a specialist in the area of software compliance (m/f/d) to ensure Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) compliance for our delivered software. The software compliance area includes legal regulations and industry standards (e.g. software maintenance in field UNECE R156, ISO/CD 24089), customer standards (e.g. VW KGAS, Daimler SW Compliance Guide) and management of software rights (e.g. 3rd party, Open Source).

Your Key Responsibilities:

• To ensure compliance of Open Source Software used in product development.
• Interface to Schaeffler Emobility division World-wide projects for supporting LCR (license compliance review) with regards to FOSS, queries regarding OSS license/usage issues.
• Co-ordinate with engineering & legal teams for open source compliance activities during entire product life cycle
• Review Software Architecture and design of a project w.r.to OSS usage
• Review OSS components (license terms and obligations) and approval of the same (through legal team) to be used in software development
• Coordinate with external vendors (wherever necessary) with regards to OSS compliance in software development
• Maintain FOSS BOM (Bill of materials)
• Manage and escalat risks/incidents to project and/or business as required in case of FOSS non-compliance
• Clarification and interpretation of LTR (Legal Technical Regulations) relevance and mapping to the different impacted processes
• Interface with 3rd party process responsible to update/modify/derive FOSS compliance standards as part of the standard process and rollout of the same
• Organize and maintain a global network within the engineering community to ensure knowledge exchange for FOSS compliance related topics especially with impacted product development teams

Your Qualifications:

• Bachelors in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Telecommunication)
• Working experience with Open Source software development and design (using C/C++/Java) (Total work experience: 6-8 years)
• Knowledge of Open Source Software architecture/Platforms (Linux/Eclipse/Android)
• Advanced communication skills for collaboration within international organizational structures, as well as advanced team working, and networking skills needed
• Experience with Linux OS will be preferred
• Hands on experience with Open Source Licensing & Compliance and Scripting would be an added advantage
• Professional experience in the automotive function and software development preferably in the supplier business would be an added adva
