Job summary

Sumitomo SHI SFW in Noida, India is seeking a Steel Structural Engineer with 5+ years of experience in structural design calculations, especially using STAAD Pro, to join our JV operations with ISGEC Heavy Engineering.

The role includes preparing design criteria, performing calculations, optimizing material use, designing connections, and coordinating with 3D models and drawings, while ensuring code compliance and project specs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in civil/structural engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in structural design calculations.
• Knowledge of Eurocode/US codes is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Prepare structural design criteria documents.
• Perform STAAD Pro based structural calculations for steel structures.
• Design connections (bolted/welded) and calculate foundations/base plates.
• Prepare design reports and data inputs for 3D model/drawings.
• Review 3D models/drawings for structural and safety perspectives.
• Maintain design documentation and ensure schedule compliance.
• Interface with customers/consultants and address queries.

Position : Steel Structural Engineer

Qualification : B.E / B.Tech (Civil) / M.E / M.Tech (Structure)

Experience: Minimum 5 years in structural design calculations using STAAD Pro

Main Thrust: Perform Structural Engineering Calculations using STAAD Pro software for the steel structures, Structural connection design (Bolted, welded) , Perform work according to the job specifications, design criteria, applicable codes and standards, preparing calculation reports, design data, verifying 3D model/drawing from structure design & safety perspective.

Functions & Tasks

• Prepare structural design criteria documents.
• Perform Structural design calculations using STAAD Pro for various steel structures of various building such as boiler building , silo building, Turbine building, Control room building, AQCS buildings, ID fan rooms, Bag filter/ESP support structures, Penthouse structures, Boiler buckstay, Flues and Duct Support structures, Pipe rack, cable rack structures, Pipe support , Duct support secondary structures, Monorail structures, Hoist beams, Transport frames, lifting & Handling analysis etc, in accordance with the applicable design codes, standards, regulations, job specifications, design criteria.
• Optimize structural design weights to save materials as compared to budget, right material selections and applications.
• Perform Structural connection design for all type of connections (bolted, welded), Foundation base plate, anchor bolts design using Excel spreadsheets, RAM Connections/Robot/Idea Statica tools
• Arrange Design reviews, Interface reviews, maintain records and close assigned actions related to structural design.
• Prepare comprehensive design calculation reports for all design calculations and getting approval from 3rd Parties/Notified bodies
• Prepare Design Data input to detail design team to prepare 3D model, drawings.
• Review Basic/Detail design 3D models, drawings from Structural design & Safety perspective
• Compliance with company work practices and processes, maintain documentation as per process. requirements, ensure all input required for carrying out design work, manage hold items, report work progress status, meet schedule requirements, ensure high quality of work, productivity.
• Efficient management of design changes due to various reasons during engineering phase.
• Attend Customer / Consultant queries regarding structural calculations during design, manufacturing, construction.
• Disposal of shop / site feedback, Non-conformances, supplier change requests related to steel structural engineering.

Other Requirements

• Handson experience in STAAD Pro software, various structural connection design tools, Microsoft excel using macros.
• Ability to understand, interpret various country local codes and regulations related to structural design as applicable to the projects.
• Clear understanding of Eurocode, American codes related to structural engineering and materials
• 3D Model review tools (Cadmatic/E3D/Navisworks/Trimble connect, AutoCAD)
• Good spoken and written English communication skills
