Outsourced is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for steel fabrication and erection projects. The role focuses on Tekla EstiModeling and transforming drawings into detailed take-offs, while communicating with vendors to secure current pricing.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects. The ideal candidate is highly proficient in Tekla EstiModeling, skilled at translating drawings and specifications into detailed take-offs and pricing, and comfortable communicating directly with material vendors via email to secure current, competitive pricing. This role requires strong attention to detail, clear written communication, and the ability to manage multiple bids under deadline pressure.

Key Responsibilities

• Review contract drawings, specifications, and RFIs to develop complete and accurate structural steel take-offs.
• Build and maintain detailed estimating models using Tekla EstiModeling, ensuring quantities, connections, and material types are correctly represented.
• Prepare comprehensive, well-organized project summaries that clearly communicate scope, assumptions, exclusions, schedule considerations, and pricing to internal stakeholders and clients.
• Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate material pricing with vendors and suppliers, maintaining relationships with key mill and service center contacts.
• Track and incorporate current market pricing trends for structural steel, plate, bar joist, decking, and miscellaneous metals.
• Coordinate with detailers, project managers, and fabrication shop leads to validate estimate accuracy and constructability.
• Identify and quantify risk factors, value-engineering opportunities, and alternate approaches during the bid process.
• Maintain organized bid files, historical pricing data, and vendor quote documentation for future reference.
• Participate in bid review meetings and present estimate findings clearly to leadership and clients.
• Track outstanding bids, follow up on proposals, and support contract negotiations as needed.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience estimating structural steel fabrication and/or erection projects.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Tekla EstiModeling (or equivalent Tekla estimating tools).
• Strong ability to read and interpret structural drawings, specifications, and steel detailing documents.
• Excellent written communication skills, with experience producing detailed, client-ready project summaries.
• Proven experience negotiating and communicating with material vendors regarding pricing, lead times, and availability.
• Solid understanding of structural steel shapes, connections, and fabrication/erection methods.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously under deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with AISC standards and common structural steel codes/specifications.
• Experience with additional estimating or takeoff software (e.g., FabSuite, SDS/2, Bluebeam).
• Background in steel fabrication, detailing, or project management.
• Established relationships with regional steel mills, service centers, or fabricators.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
