Job summary

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. is seeking a Sr Lead Engineer- Mechanical Development in Chennai. The role requires 9–11 years post-ME or 12–13 years post-BE, with strong engine systems knowledge, DFMEA, and hands-on durability testing.

Travel may be required for project needs and cross-functional collaboration across teams. The candidate will shepherd engine development from concept to SOP, ensure on-time milestones, and drive cost-effective improvements while maintaining emission compliance and NVH

Qualifications

• Graduate/PG in Mechanical or related streams; diploma considered.
• Strong knowledge of engine parts, durability standards, and testing.
• Experience with engine development timelines and SOP adherence.
• FMEA, 8D, and Ishikawa problem-solving methods.

Responsibilities

• Lead engine development, testing, and validation to meet performance targets.
• Monitor timelines and escalate deviations promptly.
• Review progress with cross-functional teams and document milestones.
• Investigate durability issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with design, CAE, calibration, manufacturing, and suppliers.
• Keep up-to-date with emission norms and component changes.
• Identify cost-reduction opportunities and drive improvements.

• 1.Possess strong knowledge of engine parts, functional requirements, and durability standards.
• 2.Experience with functional and durability test requirements for engines and their subsystems.
• 3.Accountable for the comprehensive development, testing, and validation of engines to achieve performance targets, fuel efficiency, emission durability, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) standards.
• 4. Responsible for the preparation and monitoring of engine development timelines with respect to SOP, and ensuring timely escalation in case of deviations.
• 5.Conduct regular reviews of engine development progress with cross-functional teams (CFT) and team members to adhere to development timelines.
  Analyze functional and durability test data, preparing technical reports and necessary documentation to support developmental milestones.
• 6.Perform detailed investigations of engine durability issues (both rig and vehicle), utilizing tools such as FMEA, 8D, and Ishikawa diagram.
• 7.Collaborate with design, CAE, calibration, vehicle integration, manufacturing, and suppliers to preemptively address potential failure modes during the design and prototype phases of engine development.
• 8.Maintain strong knowledge of current and proposed emission norms and understand the necessary changes in engine components to meet these emission standards.
• 9.Work with various cross-functional teams to identify cost reduction opportunities, explore new technologies, and implement improvements.
