Job summary

SYSTRA is seeking a Sr. Environmental Expert in India to lead environmental compliance, EIAs, and permit management for major rail/urban mobility projects. You will supervise site monitoring, mitigation planning, and reporting while engaging with regulatory bodies and NGOs.

The role requires extensive railway sector experience, strong leadership in environmental management, and the ability to drive sustainability initiatives across project life cycles.

Qualifications

• Graduate in Engineering with PG/Specialization in Environmental Science/Engineering.
• minimum 20 years of experience in railways or railway related industry.
• minimum 5 years' experience in urban rail based passenger carrying system.

Responsibilities

• Environmental Compliance: Ensure the project complies with environmental regulations, policies, and guidelines at local, regional, and national levels.
• Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Lead, review, and support the preparation and implementation of EIAs and EMPs.
• Permit and Clearance Management: Coordinate and obtain required environmental clearances and permits.
• Site Monitoring: Supervise and monitor construction and operational activities to ensure adherence to EMP and safeguards.
• Mitigation Planning: Identify environmental risks and oversee mitigation measures.
• Reporting and Documentation: Prepare regular environmental monitoring reports and submit to stakeholders.
• Awareness and Training: Organize environmental training programs for project personnel and workers.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with agencies, NGOs, and the public, addressing concerns.
• Sustainability Initiatives: Advise on sustainability measures and eco-friendly practices.
• Incident Management: Investigate environmental incidents and propose corrective actions.
• Continuous Improvement: Update procedures based on new regulations.

Currently, we are bidding for Metro Rail projects across India. The position of Sr. Environmental Expert is the key position in these BIDs.

Missions/Main Duties

• Environmental Compliance: Ensure the project complies with all environmental regulations, policies, and guidelines at local, regional, and national levels.
• Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Lead, review, and support the preparation and implementation of EIAs and Environmental Management Plans (EMP) for the project.
• Permit and Clearance Management: Coordinate and obtain required environmental clearances and permits from relevant authorities.
• Site Monitoring: Supervise and monitor construction and operational activities to ensure adherence to EMP, mitigation measures, and environmental safeguards.
• Mitigation Planning: Identify potential environmental risks and recommend/oversee the implementation of mitigation measures.
• Reporting and Documentation: Prepare regular environmental monitoring reports, compliance documentation, and submit them to project stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
• Awareness and Training: Organize and conduct environmental awareness and training programs for project personnel, contractors, and workers.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with environmental agencies, consultants, NGOs, and the public as necessary, responding to queries and addressing concerns.
• Sustainability Initiatives: Advise on sustainability measures, resource conservation, pollution prevention, and eco-friendly practices for the project.
• Incident Management: Investigate and report environmental incidents or non-compliance, suggesting corrective and preventive actions.
• Continuous Improvement: Recommend updates to environmental procedures and practices based on new regulations or project requirements.
