Job summary

SYSTRA is seeking a Sr. Geotech Expert in Mumbai to lead geotechnical investigations and design inputs for metro and rail projects. You will supervise site studies, analyze soils and groundwater, and coordinate with civil and tunneling teams to integrate geotechnical solutions across projects.

The ideal candidate has 20+ years in rail- or railway-related industries and at least 5 years in urban rail systems. A strong mentoring stance and capability to train junior engineers are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate in Civil Engineering with PG/Specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• minimum 20 years of experience in railways or railway related industry.
• minimum 5 years’ experience in urban rail based passenger carrying system.

Responsibilities

• Geotechnical Investigation: Plan, supervise, and review site investigations for metro alignments, stations, and related infrastructure.
• Data Analysis: Analyze laboratory and field geotechnical data to evaluate soil properties and risks.
• Design Inputs: Provide geotechnical design inputs for tunnels, stations, viaducts, embankments, and foundations.
• Review of Reports: Prepare and review geotechnical investigation reports and construction drawings.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure geotechnical works at site meet approved designs and standards.
• Risk Assessment: Identify ground risks such as settlement and liquefaction and suggest mitigations.
• Construction Support: Guide during construction, especially in challenging ground conditions.
• Monitoring: Oversee geotechnical monitoring and interpret results for timely decisions.
• Coordination: Collaborate with civil, structural, and tunnelling teams.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with codes and regulatory requirements.
• Reporting: Prepare technical reports and progress updates.

Currently, we are bidding for Metro Rail projects across India. The position of Sr. Geotech Expert is the key position in these BIDs.

Missions/Main Duties

• Geotechnical Investigation: Plan, supervise, and review geotechnical site investigations including soil, rock, and groundwater studies for metro alignments, stations, and related infrastructure.
• Data Analysis: Analyze laboratory and field geotechnical data to evaluate soil and rock properties, groundwater conditions, and geotechnical risks.
• Design Inputs: Provide geotechnical design inputs for tunnels, stations, viaducts, embankments, foundations, retaining structures, and other civil works.
• Review of Reports: Prepare and review geotechnical investigation reports, design documents, technical specifications, and construction drawings.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure geotechnical works at site are executed as per the approved designs, standards, and specifications.
• Risk Assessment: Identify and assess potential ground risks such as settlement, slope stability, liquefaction, soil-structure interaction, and suggest appropriate mitigation measures.
• Construction Support: Provide expert guidance during construction, especially in complex or challenging ground conditions, and assist with troubleshooting geotechnical issues.
• Monitoring: Oversee geotechnical monitoring programs (e.g., instrumentation for ground movement, groundwater level) and interpret results for timely decision-making.
• Coordination: Coordinate with civil, structural, and tunneling teams to integrate geotechnical solutions with overall project requirements.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and statutory requirements for geotechnical works.
• Reporting: Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and documentation for project management and regulatory bodies.
• Capacity Building: Advise, train, and mentor project team members and junior engineers on geotechnical matters and best practices.
