Role Overview

Seeking a proactive Mechanical Design Engineer to drive New Product Development (NPD) lifecycle activities for excavator and heavy machinery platforms. This role spans concept-to-production design execution, proto/pilot build coordination, machine packaging, and PLM/ERP documentation while collaborating closely with global and cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• NPD Planning & Execution: Own end-to-end design milestones from initial concept through proto build, pilot run, and serial production release.
• Packaging & Integration: Perform 3D CAD modeling, machinery layout packaging, structural integration, and interference checks for excavator aggregates and sub-assemblies.
• Detailed Engineering Drawings: Prepare production-ready 2D drawings for sheet metal, welded structures, and castings, applying strict GD&T standards and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Engineering Documentation & PLM: Manage and release Engineering Change Notices (ECN), Product Information (PI), and technical documentation within Siemens Teamcenter (PLM).
• BOM & ERP Management: Create and maintain Engineering Bills of Materials (eBOM/mBOM) and manage workflow routings in SAP.
• Build Support & Validation: Support proto and pilot builds on the shop floor, troubleshooting fitment, assembly, and manufacturability (DFMA) issues in real time.
• Global & Cross-Functional Interface: Partner with global R&D counterparts, manufacturing, procurement, and testing teams to ensure seamless project delivery and milestone compliance.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications:

• Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Experience: 5 to 7 years in New Product Development (NPD) or mechanical design within the heavy machinery, earthmoving equipment, or automotive/off-highway sector.

• Software Tools:
  • CAD: Siemens UG NX (proficient in 3D modeling, assemblies, and drafting).
  • PLM: Siemens Teamcenter (design data management, approvals, workflow release).
  • ERP: SAP (BOM handling, material master, change management).
  • General: MS Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint) for project tracking and management reviews.
• Core Technical Knowledge:
  • Solid understanding of excavator architecture, packaging, and aggregate layout.
  • Hands-on knowledge of fabrication, welding processes, sheet metal, and casting design.
  • Strong foundation in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and manufacturing quality checks.
• Professional Competencies:
  • Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills for global stakeholder reporting.
