Job summary

Eaton Corporation in Pune is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to drive New Product Introduction and Value Analysis/Value Engineering for GEIS products aimed at international markets. You will own end-to-end NPI processes, support cost-out initiatives, and ensure compliance with global standards.

The role requires strong CAD skills, GD&T proficiency, and knowledge of UL/IEC certifications, with 3–5 years in product design and a collaborative, global team mindset.

Qualifications

• BE / M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, 3–5 yrs of experience in product design.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design and relevant product standards (UL, NEMA, IEC).
• Experience with cost-out from concept to commercialization and CAD modeling.

Job description

What you’ll do

Primary responsibility of this role is to excute New Product Introduction (NPI) and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) projects of GEIS products that will penetrate the national and international markets. This position responsibilities entails the identification and execution of NPI projects and also support cost savings initiatives through VAVE. It also requires to have strong communication skills, drive, strong engineering acumen with enthusiasm in the product design arena. Ensure product compliance to global design standards like UL, NEMA, IEC or any other compliance standard. Has the good understanding about the Hazardous & Non-hazardous Locations standard requirement. A solid understanding of industry requirements is essential, along with the ability to perform complete system and component sizing, design and testing activities to meet GEIS commercial product specifications, primarily for the U.S. market.

• Work in multiple programs/projects related to New Product Introduction (NPI) and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) to achieve the business goals and Profit Plan objectives.
• Own end to end responsibility of NPI projects including product conceptualization, detailing, design validation & testing of products.
• Contribute to Conduct workshops to identify cost out opportunities and evaluate those
• Work in a cross functional/ multi-disciplinary team in making technology/ engineering decisions required for project execution.
• Designs, validates and releases system, sub-system and components independently as well as through team of engineers. Creates CAD drawings- detailing, 3D models, Assemblies etc. and ensure release in PLM / ERP system per project plan.
• Contribute to create test plans in accordance with IEC/UL standards. Create test object requirements, plan for assembly and finalize test parameters & instrumentation. Responsible for conducting tests by ensuring deployment of standard practices. Assess test results, perform root cause analysis through test findings/failures and take corrective/preventive actions discussing with Leads.
• Collaborate with leads to Create Intellectual Property documents (IPs) around new product design concepts / ideas and drive innovation from ideation through to execution.
• Understands project management process and tools required for planning, efforts estimation and other quality management processes as required for achieving the project deliverables.

Qualifications

BE / M.tech – Mechanical Engineering 3-5 yrs. Product Design

Skills

1. Sound technical knowledge and experience in design and development of Mechanical products like sheet metal products (preferred), cast/machined products, plastic products and relevant product standards such as UL, NEMA, IEC, etc.
2. Experience must include hands on experience with product cost out from concept to commercialization including and not limited to part detailing and designing, component and material selection, drawing creation, 3D modeling of parts/assemblies and 2D dimensioning and tolerance of parts, prototyping and validation
3. Proven track record for Support / Lead Mechanical design & development activities in a Product design as a Individual contributor/part of team from Concept to Launch
4. Analytical skills must include understanding customer requirements, component design/ selection, stresses, fatigue life, component fits and establishing efficient/ergonomic methods of assembly, Design calculations.
5. Should be proficient with GD&T, Six Sigma, DFMEA, DFMA, UL/IEC certification
6. Working knowledge and hands-on experience of CAD tools like AutoCAD/Solid works (Must)/CREO, SAP & ENOVIA
7. Working knowledge of Product Development Lifecycle (PDLC) i.e. from VOC to Production. Experienced at least one full PDLC.
8. Understanding of GEIS commercial B-Line products would be an added advantage
