Job summary

BMW TechWorks India Private Limited is seeking a seasoned automotive design engineer to lead the design and development of exterior trim components such as spoilers, door & wheel arch claddings, and badges. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and timely releases within the module scope for various vehicle lines.

The role requires 6+ years in automotive design, strong CATIA V5/V6 skills, and the ability to collaborate across time zones.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6+ years of professional experience in automotive design and development.
• Delivered at least 1 complete project as Lead Engineer or Senior Design Engineer.
• Excellent collaboration with multiple stakeholders to achieve targets.
• Proactive, team-oriented mindset; capable across time zones and cultures.
• Strong English communication; German is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and Development of Spoiler, Pillar Cappings, Door & Wheel Arch Claddings, Leaf Screen / Cowl Grille, Finishers, Badges, etc.
• Ensure design compliance and complete required releases within module scope for respective vehicle lines.
• Report problems/risks/deviations and propose solutions or alternatives.

Job description

• You will be managing and responsible for Design and Development of Spoiler, Piller Cappings, Door & Wheel Arch Claddings, Leaf Screen / Cowl Grille, Finishers, Badges etc. with cross functional team for the scope defined by module organization
• You will be responsible for ensuring design compliance and completing all required releases within the module scope, including the relevant product functions for the respective vehicle lines.
• You will be responsible for reporting problems, risks, deviations from planning, targets, etc. and offering solutions/alternatives for the same.

What should you bring along

• Minimum 6+ years of professional experience in automotive Design and Development and should have delivered at least 1 complete project as / Lead Engineer / Sr. Design Engineer
• Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders to achieve set targets
• A proactive, teamwork-oriented mindset with the ability to operate in a multicultural environment across different time zones.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in industrial design, Transportation Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong expertise in Catia V5/V6 CAD design with a focus on structured and parametric modelling
• Design of parametric CAD models for build-to-print Exterior Trim parts
• Knowledge of common manufacturing methods for Plastic components
• Good communication and English language skills (German language is an advantage)

Must have technical skill

• Very good skills in CATIA V5, especially in Generative Shape Design, Part Design, Assembly Design, Drafting, and Digital Mock-up
• Familiarity with different manufacturing technologies for Plastic components, especially Exterior Trim parts
• Expert in fixing and location strategies
• Proficient in creating CAD models in a structured way
• Experience in Build-to-print Exterior Trim Design
• Good working knowledge of GD&T
• Able to interpret CAE / attribute reports and incorporate recommendations in design

Good to have Technical skills

• Experience with collision checks and integration of special characteristics
• Tolerance Stake-up analysis
• Experience participating in integration meetings and interface coordination
• Experience of BMW project will be an added advantage
