Job summary

BMW Tech Works India in Pune is seeking an experienced professional for Class A surface design for automotive interiors and exteriors. You will create high-quality surfaces using ICEM Surf and CATIA, ensuring design intent and manufacturability.

You will collaborate with designers, CAS modelers, and engineering teams across global BMW locations, including Munich, to deliver refined surfaces and advance digital product development in a world-class environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of automotive Class A surfacing experience in interior or exterior.
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, Mechanical Eng., or related field.
• Strong collaboration with design and engineering teams; English proficiency; German a plus.

Catia V5 PLM Product Exterior Design Interior Design CAS

• You will create high-quality Class A surfaces for premium automotive interior and exterior components, ensuring exceptional visual quality, manufacturability, and design intent realization.
• You’ll collaborate closely with designers, CAS modelers, and engineering teams across global BMW locations to transform creative concepts into production-feasible digital surfaces.
• You’ll work with industry-leading tools like ICEM Surf, and CATIA while continuously enhancing your expertise in advanced surfacing methodologies and digital product development.
• This role offers opportunities to contribute to iconic BMW vehicles, drive surface excellence across development phases, and grow within a world-class automotive design and engineering environment.
• Join BMW Tech Works India in the Digital Product Engineering cluster, Unit CAD, focusing on Class A surfacing development for automotive interior and exterior components.
• Collaborate daily with the Munich Design Studio and global development teams to deliver aesthetically refined and technically robust Class A surfaces aligned with BMW design standards.

What should you bring along

• A strong passion for automotive surfaces, with a keen sense of form and aesthetic judgment.
• Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with design and styling partners in Munich.
• Very good English language skills (German language is an advantage).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in automotive Class A surfacing in interior or exterior
• Proactive, teamwork-oriented mindset with the ability to operate in a matrix environment.

Must have technical skill

• Expert proficiency in ICEM Surf for high-quality surface modelling.
• Strong understanding of surfaces, form, and aesthetics while maintaining technical requirements
• Working knowledge of CATIA is beneficial.
• Familiarity with visualization tools (e.g., VRED) for presenting surface concepts.
• Basic familiarity with Poly Tools (SubD, Blender) is advantageous.
• Experience with parametric design concepts and AI-assisted design tools is a plus.
• Solid technical understanding of design intent, tolerances, and production feasibility.

Good to have Technical skills

• Experience working with BMW design studios or automotive styling teams, preferably in international collaborations.
• Knowledge of digitization workflows, data exchange formats, and version control in a design/engineering context.
• Exposure to design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) considerations.
• Ability to contribute to rapid ideation and iteration cycles while maintaining high-quality surface outputs.
