Job summary

Thompsons Hr Consulting is seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler for Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The role involves assembling mechanical components per drawings, fitting linear guides, bearings, gearboxes, and pneumatic/hydraulic parts, ensuring alignment and precision.

You will read drawings, update checklists, support trials and commissioning, maintain 5S at the workspace, and be prepared to travel to customer sites if required.

Qualifications

• ITI or diploma in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with assembly of SPM/automation equipment.
• Familiarity with GD&T is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical components of SPMs as per assembly drawings, GA drawings, and BOM.
• Perform fitting of linear guides, ball screws, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatic and hydraulic components.
• Ensure proper alignment, levelling, and precision fitting of machine elements.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, exploded views, and layouts.
• Verify parts against drawings and report discrepancies to the design/PM team.
• Update assembly checklists and build records.
• Coordinate with Design, Electrical, Controls, and Quality teams during assembly.
• Support trials, dry runs, and commissioning activities.
• Attend project review and troubleshooting discussions when required.
• Follow assembly standards, torque values, and safety procedures.
• Identify and rectify assembly-related issues.
• Maintain good housekeeping (5S) at work area.
• Support machine installation, alignment, and commissioning at customer site.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Assembly & Fitting

• Assemble mechanical components of SPMs as per assembly drawings, GA drawings, and BOM
• Perform fitting of linear guides, ball screws, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatic and hydraulic components
• Ensure proper alignment, levelling, and precision fitting of machine elements

Drawing & Documentation

• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, exploded views, and layouts
• Verify parts against drawings and report discrepancies to the design/PM team
• Update assembly checklists and build records

Pneumatics & Hydraulics

• Assemble pneumatic circuits including cylinders, valves, FRLs, tubing
• Perform leak testing and functional checks
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems (if applicable)

Coordination & Support

• Coordinate with Design, Electrical, Controls, and Quality teams during assembly
• Support trials, dry runs, and commissioning activities
• Attend project review and troubleshooting discussions when required

Quality & Safety

• Follow assembly standards, torque values, and safety procedures
• Identify and rectify assembly-related issues
• Maintain good housekeeping (5S) at work area

Installation & Customer Support (if required)

• Support machine installation, alignment, and commissioning at customer site
• Assist in resolving on-site mechanical issues during trials

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of mechanical assembly and fitting
• Experience in SPM / Automation / Machine Tool assembly
• Knowledge of bearings, linear motion systems, gearboxes, pneumatics
• Ability to use measuring instruments: Vernier, Micrometre, Dial Gauge
• Basic understanding of GD&T is an advantage
