Job summary

Hubbell in Chennai seeks an experienced SPM Automation Design engineer to lead the design of Special Purpose Machines and automation systems. You will develop 3D/2D drawings, prepare BOMs, and collaborate with customers to translate requirements into robust designs.

The role requires strong fundamentals in machine design, GD&T, materials selection, and automation with PLC/HMI proficiency. Interaction with cross-functional teams is essential for successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• Min. 10 to 12 years exp. in SPM Machine Automation Design & electrical support.
• 8+ years of experience in a Special purpose machine/Automation Machine Design unit.
• Familiar with designing SPM machines and components and dimension calculations based on zero faults.
• Strong in process and machine design principles and automation skills.
• Proficient in PLC and HMI programming and modification as needed.
• Drafts Concept SPM designs from customer inputs.
• Feasibility studies for new concepts/requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D & 2D drawings of assemblies.
• Generate BOM for machined and fabricated components.
• Interact with customers to understand functional specs.
• Apply materials selection and strength-of-materials knowledge.
• Ensure tolerances and GD&T in designs and manufacturing drawings.
• Work with pneumatic, hydraulic elements and sensors.
• Select bearings, cylinders, actuators, and linear motion components.

Job description

Min. 10 to 12 years exp. in SPM Machine Automation Design & electrical support.

• Should have 8+ years of experience in a Special purpose machine/Automation Machine Design unit.
• Should be well familiar with designing SPM Machines and their components and parts dimensions calculations based on Zero faults.
• Good knowledge & proven experience in the development of SPM (Special purpose machine) for manual, semi-auto & Fully automatic assembly lines.
• Strong in Process and Machine design principles and Automation Skills
• Do the programming or modify the programming on a need basis using PLC, HMI, etc
• Sketch and draw up Concept SPM designs using the customer inputs.
• Feasibility study for new concepts/requirements
• Develop 3D & 2D drawings of individual assemblies
• Ability to generate a bill of materials for machined components, and fabricated components, & standard items.
• Interaction with customers to understand their functional specifications
• Good mechanical engineering basics, with the ability to work with Industrial Automation Machines/SPM Machine design
• Good Knowledge on strength of materials and basic hand calculation.
• Technical knowledge in Material selection and SPM Machine designing,
• Should be able to perform with tolerance and GD&T in design as well as in Manufacturing Drawings.
• Should have good knowledge of Pneumatic & Hydraulic elements and sensors.
• Should have good knowledge of Bearings, cylinders, actuators & Selection Methods, Linear motion Equipment, Steel Structure & Weldment, Mechanical Joints, and Power Transmission Systems.
• Should have good behavioral skills & collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
