Wipro is seeking a Tools Engineer L2 in Software Asset Management to own the SAM tooling landscape within a managed services setup. Experience
  • Total experience:5+ years inIT operations / tooling / asset management
  • Relevant experience:3–5+ years working withSoftware Asset Management (SAM) tools and processes (e.g., Flexera, ServiceNow SAM Pro, Snow, Lansweeper, SCCM/Intune, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience in amanaged services / AMSmodel with SLAs, ITSM processes, and multi-customer / multi-business environments
Role Summary

The Tools Engineer L3 – Software Asset Management is the senior technical owner for the SAM tooling landscape within a managed services environment. This role is responsible for designing, configuring, and operating SAM tools; integrating them with discovery, CMDB, procurement, and ITSM systems; and acting as the L3 escalation point for complex issues and enhancements.

The engineer ensures that SAM tools reliably support license compliance, optimization, and governance; drives automation and data quality improvements; and collaborates closely with SAM, procurement, security, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act asL3 technical ownerfor the SAM toolset (primary SAM platform plus supporting discovery/inventory tools).
  • Design and implementconfigurations, customizations, and upgradesin line with best practices and governance standards.
2. Operations, Support & Incident Management
  • ProvideL3 supportfor incidents, problems, and service requests related to SAM tools, including complex configuration or data issues.
  • Performroot cause analysisand implement permanent fixes for recurring tool issues and data inconsistencies.
  • Supporton-call/major incidentprocesses when SAM tools impact critical compliance/operational activities.
  • Implement and refinediscovery and normalization rulesto improve software recognition and catalog accuracy.
  • Work with SAM analysts to ensureaccurate license consumption and compliance reporting(effective license position).
  • Develop and maintaindata quality dashboardsand correction routines (e.g., duplicate assets, unmapped software, stale devices).
4. Integration & Automation
  • Design and maintainintegrationsbetween SAM tools and:
  • CMDB/asset repositories
  • Procurement/ERP systems
  • Build and maintainautomation scripts and workflowsfor routine operations (data imports/exports, reconciliations, notifications, clean-up).
5. Governance, Compliance & Optimization Support
  • Support SAM / Licensing teams by providingreliable tooling, data, and technical insightsfor audits and true-ups.
  • Implementpolicies and guardrailsin the tools to support license governance (blacklists/whitelists, restrictions, reclamation workflows).
  • Contribute tolicense optimization initiativesby enabling accurate reporting and scenario analysis through the tools.
  • Develop and maintaintechnical documentation, runbooks, and configuration baselinesfor the SAM toolset.
  • Definestandards and best practicesfor SAM tool usage, configuration, and integration.
  • Identify and drivecontinuous improvementopportunities (new features, performance tuning, automation, reporting enhancements).
  • Strong hands‑on experience with at least one enterpriseSAM platform(e.g., Flexera, ServiceNow SAM Pro, Snow, or equivalent).
  • Good understanding ofsoftware licensing models(per device, per user, server/CAL, core-based, subscription/SaaS) and their impact on data and tooling.
  • Experience withdiscovery / inventory toolsandCMDBconcepts.
  • Proficiency withSQLand/or scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for data analysis, automation, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience withsystem integrations(APIs, web services, scheduled imports/exports) between SAM tools and other IT systems.
  • Familiarity withITSM/ITILprocesses (Incident, Problem, Change, Request) in a managed services context.
  • Stronganalytical, troubleshooting, and documentationskills.
  • Goodcommunication and stakeholder managementskills; able to work with SAM analysts, procurement, security, and operations teams.
Good-to-Have
  • Exposure tocloud/SaaS license management(M365, Azure, AWS, Salesforce, etc.) within SAM tools.
  • Experience withreporting/BI tools(Power BI, Tableau, etc.) for advanced SAM analytics.
  • Certifications inITIL,SAM(e.g., CSAM), or specific SAM tools/platforms.
