Lokmat Times is seeking a new-age Journalist cum Social Media Creator to bring hyperlocal news to life through engaging digital content in Mumbai and surrounding cities.

This role is not a traditional reporting position; the candidate will turn local stories into social-first formats like Reels, videos, posts, and carousels, using mobile video and editing tools. The ideal candidate could be a journalist, content creator, or video journalist who understands what works on social media.

• 2–5 years of experience in journalism, digital media, or content creation.
• Strong Marathi and English communication and content-writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Cover breaking news, civic issues, politics, crime, events, culture and trends in the city.
• Go on ground and identify stories, creating social-first news content.
• Shoot videos/Reels using a mobile phone and produce engaging content.
• Be comfortable on camera and present stories and updates on ground.
• Repurpose content for Instagram, Facebook and other platforms.
• Build and maintain local sources and coordinate with editorial and social teams.

About the Role

Lokmat Times is looking for a new-age Journalist cum Social Media Creator who can bring hyperlocal news to life through engaging digital content.

This is not a traditional reporting role. We are looking for someone who understands the city, knows what is happening on the ground and can turn a local story into an engaging Reel, video, post or social-first news story.

The ideal candidate could be a journalist, content creator, video journalist or someone who already creates news/informative content independently and understands what works on social media.

Location: Mumbai | Thane | Nashik | Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar

What Youll Do

• Cover breaking news, civic issues, politics, crime, events, culture, trends and important happenings across the city.


• Go on ground, identify relevant stories and create social-first news content.


• Shoot videos/Reels using a mobile phone and create engaging visual content.


• Be comfortable on camera and present/anchor stories, Reels and on-ground updates when required.


• Convert news stories into engaging Reels, short videos, carousels, posts and other social formats.


• Create strong hooks, headlines, captions and storytelling formats suited for Instagram and Facebook.


• Track local trends, viral conversations and emerging city stories.


• Build and maintain a strong network of local sources and contacts.


• Coordinate with the editorial and social media teams.


• Repurpose content across different social platforms.


• Understand what is trending and find creative ways to make local news interesting, relatable and shareable.


• Ensure factual accuracy, credibility and responsible reporting.

Who Were Looking For

• 2 to 5 years of experience in journalism, digital media, video journalism, social media content or content creation.


• Someone who is equally comfortable reporting a story and creating content around it.


• Camera-friendly and confident on camera, with the ability to speak naturally and engage an audience.


• Comfortable being the face/voice of the content and presenting news, Reels and on-ground stories.


• Strong understanding of the local city, its people, issues, trends and culture.


• Strong Marathi and English communication and content-writing skills.


• Comfortable going on ground and covering stories independently.


• Strong understanding of Instagram Reels, short-form video, trends, hooks and social storytelling.


• Basic video shooting/editing skills using mobile or editing tools.


• Canva, CapCut or other editing/AI content tools will be an advantage.


• Strong news sense combined with a creator mindset.


• Ability to work quickly in a breaking-news environment.

Creator Mindset Is a Must

We are especially interested in candidates who:

• Already run their own Instagram, YouTube, news/information page or regularly create content.


• Have a portfolio of Reels, on-ground videos, news explainers or city-focused content.


• Understand how to make a story engaging within the first few seconds.


• Can identify a story before it becomes a story on social media.


• Are comfortable speaking to the camera and creating content in their own style.


• Are naturally curious, plugged into trends and always aware of whats happening right now.
