Job Description

The Shift Engineer is the on-ground senior resource for the Airoli facility during each shift, holding end-to-end operational responsibility for electrical and mechanical infrastructure. The role operates critical systems including in-house substation, transformers, UPS, HVAC, and fire systems per laid-down SOPs and EOPs, while coordinating with multiple internal teams, vendors, and OEMs. Beyond technical operations, the Shift Engineer owns shift-level governance: ensuring continuity of critical operations across shift handovers, driving timely escalation and incident response, and maintaining the documentation and compliance discipline required to support audits, SLA tracking, and leadership reporting.

Key Responsibilities
Critical Infrastructure Operations
  • Operate and maintain critical infrastructure including in-house substation, transformers, UPS, PAC, PAHU, FWU, HT/LT panels, chiller system, BMS, CPM, EMPS, and SCADA systems.
  • Operate electrical and mechanical setups per laid-down SOP and EOP.
  • Apply working knowledge of HVAC systems, with exposure to precision air conditioning operations.
  • Apply knowledge of DG set operations.
  • Apply knowledge of HT installation operations (11 kV–220 kV); authorized to work on Hi-Tension installations.
  • Monitor and maintain fire detection and fire suppression systems.
  • Apply working knowledge of BMS, safety, and security systems.
Maintenance & Vendor Coordination
  • Coordinate on-ground operations with multiple internal teams throughout the shift.
  • Coordinate with vendors and OEMs for incident management, preventive maintenance tracking, and supervision of maintenance activity.
  • Prepare PM schedules for utility equipment and apply preventive and breakdown maintenance procedures.
  • Log all maintenance activity and utilize CMMS (ServiceNow or equivalent) for operational tracking.
  • Support energy management of electrical systems such as transformers and UPS, and analyze equipment performance to support operational reliability.
Shift Governance & Continuity
  • Act as the single point of operational accountability for the facility during the assigned shift.
  • Conduct structured shift handovers, documenting open issues, ongoing work, and pending approvals for the incoming shift.
  • Ensure continuity of critical operations across shift transitions with no gaps in coverage or awareness.
  • Maintain real-time visibility of all active maintenance, incidents, and vendor activity on-site.
Incident & Emergency Response
  • Act as first responder to onsite emergencies, directing immediate corrective action.
  • Escalate issues to external facility contractors, OEMs, and relevant stakeholders per defined escalation protocols.
  • Prepare incident reports with root-cause detail and ensure timely closure tracking.
  • Raise approval requests to management for procurement of goods/services required during the shift.
Compliance & Reporting
  • Maintain records required to support internal and external audits, in line with statutory requirements for the site.
  • Apply knowledge of compliance processes for relevant ISO certifications (QMS, ITSM, ISMS, BCMS, EnMS, EMS, OHSE).
  • Coordinate effectively with internal teams and external customers, ensuring accurate and timely communication during both routine operations and emergencies.
  • Contribute shift-level data and observations to support leadership reporting, SLA/KPI tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • Graduate engineer in Electrical or Mechanical stream with 2–3 years' experience; OR Diploma engineer with 3–5 years' experience; OR ITI candidate with 8–10 years' experience, with strong experience in the electrical and mechanical field.
  • Adequate exposure to Data Center or telecom equipment-related facility infrastructure.
  • Experience handling large facilities with in-house substations and critical infrastructure.
  • Authorized to work on Hi-Tension installations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, with working knowledge of CMMS (ServiceNow or equivalent).
  • Ability to work rotational shift duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Sound judgment and composure to act as the lead operational authority during emergencies and high-pressure situations.
