1. Job Purpose

The Service Manager will be responsible for managing the complete after-sales service and O&M operations of solar power plants, ensuring maximum plant availability, timely resolution of breakdowns, customer satisfaction and effective utilization of service manpower.

The role will be responsible for preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, AMC management, warranty coordination, customer complaints and service team performance.

1. Key Responsibilities
A. Service & O&M Management
  • Manage day-to-day service operations for all assigned solar plants.
  • Ensure timely response and resolution of customer complaints.
  • Monitor plant performance and identify abnormal generation/performance.
  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Ensure maximum plant availability.
  • Maintain service records for each project.
  • Develop and implement standard service procedures/checklists.
B. Breakdown & Complaint Management

The Service Manager should ensure a structured complaint process:

Complaint Received → Diagnosis → Technician Deployment → Rectification → Testing → Customer Confirmation → Closure

Responsibilities include:

  • Receive and prioritize service complaints.
  • Assign complaints to appropriate service engineers/technicians.
  • Monitor response and resolution time.
  • Escalate major technical issues to management/OEM.
  • Maintain a Complaint & Breakdown Register.
  • Analyze recurring failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
C. Preventive Maintenance
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure timely execution of:
    • Modules cleaning/inspection
    • Structure inspection
    • DC cable & connector inspection
    • Inverter inspection
    • ACDB/DCDB inspection
    • LT/HT panel inspection
    • Transformer inspection
    • Earthing & lightning protection
    • SCADA/monitoring system
    • Thermography
    • IV curve testing, wherever applicable
  • Maintain PM checklists and service reports.
D. Plant Performance Monitoring
  • Monitor daily/monthly generation.
  • Track plant availability and performance ratio.
  • Identify underperforming plants.
  • Analyze:
    • Inverter downtime
    • String failures
    • Communication failures
    • Grid outages
    • Generation losses
    • Equipment failures
  • Coordinate corrective actions to minimize generation loss.
E. AMC Management
  • Ensure all contractual AMC activities are completed on schedule.
  • Maintain AMC-wise service calendars.
  • Track preventive maintenance visits.
  • Ensure AMC deliverables are properly documented.
  • Monitor AMC profitability and service costs.
  • Identify AMC renewal opportunities.
F. Service Team Management
  • Manage Service Engineers, Site Engineers, Technicians and Service Coordinators.
  • Prepare manpower deployment plans.
  • Monitor attendance, productivity and field performance.
  • Conduct regular technical training.
  • Evaluate team performance.
  • Ensure availability of critical tools and testing equipment.
  • Maintain an on-call/emergency support mechanism.
G. Spare Parts & Inventory
  • Maintain minimum stock levels for critical spare parts.
  • Identify frequently failing components.
  • Coordinate with procurement for spare requirements.
  • Control issue and utilization of spare parts.
  • Maintain proper records of:
    • Inverter spares
    • MC4/connectors
    • DC cables
    • Fuses/SPDs
    • MCB/MCCB
    • Contactors
    • Communication equipment
    • Sensors
    • Other critical components
H. OEM & Vendor Coordination
  • Coordinate with inverter/module/transformer/other equipment manufacturers.
  • Raise warranty claims.
  • Follow up for replacement/repair of defective equipment.
  • Ensure OEM service visits are completed within agreed timelines.
  • Maintain warranty claim records.
I. Customer Relationship
  • Act as the primary service contact for customers.
  • Conduct periodic service review meetings.
  • Provide service reports and plant performance reports.
  • Handle escalated technical complaints.
  • Maintain professional customer relationships.
  • Proactively communicate major breakdowns and expected restoration timelines.

  • Recommend replacement of poor-performing service personnel/vendors.

Management approval should be required for major expenses, equipment replacement, commercial commitments and warranty/AMC deviations.

Qualification
