Job summary

PeopleStrong is seeking a mechanical design engineer for water and wastewater infrastructure projects in Tamil Nadu. You will design and select mechanical equipment, prepare datasheets, RFQs, and piping layouts for STP, WTP, and ETP projects, ensuring compliance with Indian standards.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, perform stress analysis on pipelines using CAESAR II, and contribute to 3D modeling with CIVIL 3D, WaterGEMS, and Bentley tools.

Qualifications

• Experience with plant layout and piping design for water/wastewater facilities.
• Experience creating datasheets and RFQs for mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of Indian standards like CPHEEO and ASME B31.3 is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and select mechanical equipment for RFQs, including pumps, piping components, and tanks.
• Prepare datasheets and specifications for RFQ responses.
• Prepare RFQs, evaluate vendor offers, and provide technical comparisons to procurement.
• Develop plant layouts with utilities and piping for STP, WTP, ETP facilities.
• Design piping systems using GRP, ductile iron, HDPE, uPVC, stainless steel, and carbon steel.
• Perform stress analysis of pipelines using CAESAR II and prepare load schedules.
• Conduct hydraulic analysis for cross-country and in-plant pipelines.
• Design cross-country pipelines and steel pipes per ASME/Indian standards.
• Conduct surge analysis using Bentley WaterHammer; design networks with WaterGEMS.
• Guide teams in CIVIL 3D for L-section drawings and 3D process buildings.
• Review drawings and 3D models for accuracy against specs.
• Interact with clients/consultants to obtain approval of deliverables.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for project execution.
• Mechanical design of pumping stations per CPHEEO guidelines and HI standards.
• Detailed engineering of piping and utilities in water/wastewater plants per ASME B31.3.

Job description

• Design and select mechanical equipment, including pumps, blowers, lifting equipment, penstocks, tanks, pressure vessels, and piping components (pipes, fittings, valves, strainers, etc.).
• Prepare datasheets and specifications for mechanical equipment and piping components for Request for Quotation (RFQ).
• Prepare RFQs, evaluate vendor offers, conduct technical comparisons, and provide recommendations to the procurement team.
• Plant Layout & Piping Design:
  • Develop plant layouts with utilities and design GA drawings and piping layouts for STP, WTP, and ETP process buildings.
  • Design piping systems using materials such as GRP, ductile iron, HDPE, uPVC, stainless steel, and carbon steel for both above-ground and buried installations.
• Pipeline & Utility Systems:
  • Perform stress analysis of critical pipelines using CAESAR II and prepare load schedules for pipe support systems.
  • Conduct hydraulic analysis for cross-country and in-plant pipelines.
  • Design cross-country pipelines and steel pipes in compliance with international standards like AWWA M11, ASME codes, and other relevant guidelines.
• Advanced Analyses:
  • Conduct surge analysis using Bentley’s WaterHammer.
  • Design distribution networks using WaterGEMS.
• 3D Modeling & Drawing Reviews:
  • Guide teams in preparing L-section drawings in CIVIL 3D and generating 3D models of process buildings.
  • Review and evaluate drawings and 3D models for accuracy and adherence to design specifications.
• Interact with clients and consultants to obtain design deliverables approval.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Specialized Systems:
  • Mechanical design of pumping stations such as raw water intake systems, clear water pump houses, and treated water pumping stations for STP as per CPHEEO guidelines and Hydraulic Institute standards.
  • Detailed engineering of piping and utility systems in water and wastewater treatment plants as per ASME B31.3 and relevant Indian standards.
