Job summary

Job description

1. Piping Design and Layout

• System Routing: Developing the physical path of pipes to ensure efficiency, safety, and accessibility for maintenance.
• 3D Modelling Oversight: Utilizing software (like Autocad Plant 3D, E3D, S3D, 30%, 60% & 90% stages of model) & review the model in NWD platform.
• P&ID Interpretation: Translating Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams convert to piping Layout & isometric.

2. Stress Analysis and Flexibility

• Thermal Expansion: Calculating how pipes will expand or contract under extreme temperatures to prevent ruptures.
• Mechanical Loading: Analysing the impact of weight, internal pressure, wind, and seismic activity on the system.
• Software Application: Running simulations using tools like CAESAR II to ensure the design meets safety codes (e.g., ASME B31.3).

3. Material Selection and Specification

• Corrosion Resistance: Selecting metals or composites based on the chemical properties of the fluid being transported.
• Valves and Fittings: Specifying the exact types of valves (gate, globe, ball, diaphragm, plug, check), flanges, and gaskets required for specific pressure ratings.
• Procurement Support: Reviewing technical bids from vendors to ensure equipment meets project standards.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Specialist Piping Engineers act as a hub between several departments:

• Process Engineering: To understand the flow rates and temperatures required.
• Civil/Structural: To ensure the building or steel structures can support the weight of the piping.
• Construction: Providing "Isometrics" (detailed 2D drawings) that indicates welders and fitters exactly how to assemble the system on-site.
• Deliverable Verification: Approve and check critical documents like Piping Material Specifications (PMS), Material Take-offs (MTO), P&IDs, and Isometric drawings.
• Interdisciplinary Coordination: Act as the main technical interface with other engineering groups (Civil, Electrical, Process, Civil & Structura) and external clients to resolve complex technical challenges.
• Procurement Support: Prepare technical bid evaluations (TBE), review vendor drawings, and develop enquiry specifications for piping specialty items.
• Mentorship: Train and guide junior and mid-level engineers, ensuring high quality and adherence to project schedules.
