Job summary

Precilayer India is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to evaluate customer-designed parts for manufacturability and define production-ready approaches. You will assess risks, propose DFM improvements, and plan processes from CNC to EDM, including SolidWorks models and fully toleranced drawings.

Responsibilities include fixture assessment, NCR/CAPA support, and ensuring traceability in ERP/PLM per AS9100. A strong background in precision parts and aerospace/defence components is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or Tool/Production Engineering).
  • Significant practical experience in precision manufacturing engineering.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks part modelling, assemblies and 2D drawings.
  • Strong experience in CNC machining and manufacturing-process planning.
  • Practical experience in sinker EDM electrode design and related tooling.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

Role Purpose
Evaluates whether customer-designed parts can be manufactured, flags technical risks, and defines the manufacturing approach converting designs into production-ready components. Not responsible for pricing/quotation.

Core Responsibilities (condensed into 6 pillars):

  1. Feasibility & Risk Assessment Review drawings/models against machinability, tolerances, GD&T, tool access, thin-wall/distortion risk, and EDM needs. Classify each part as manufacturable as-is, manufacturable with risk controls, needs redesign, or not feasible.
  2. Design for Manufacturing (DFM) — Recommend practical design changes (radii, wall thickness, tolerance relaxation, datum improvements) without compromising function; document via markups and revised models.
  3. Process Planning — Define the manufacturing route (CNC milling/turning, 5-axis, wire/sinker EDM, grinding, heat treatment, inspection stages) including operation sequence, setups, and critical datums.
  4. SolidWorks & Drawing Preparation — Build/repair 3D models, create manufacturing-stage models, and produce fully toleranced 2D drawings with GD&T, finish, and material specs, under revision control.
  5. EDM Electrode Design — Design roughing/finishing electrodes (geometry, spark gap, flushing, wear) and manage traceability between features and electrodes.
  6. Fixture Feasibility & Production Support — Assess workholding/clamping strategies; support programmers, machinists, and inspectors; drive NCR/CAPA investigations and first-article reviews; maintain engineering documentation in ERP/PLM per AS9100.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering or Tool Engineering.
  • Significant practical experience in precision manufacturing engineering.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks part modelling, assemblies and 2D drawings.
  • Strong experience in CNC machining and manufacturing-process planning.
  • Practical experience in sinker EDM electrode design.
  • Strong understanding of wire EDM and sinker EDM applications.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T and tolerance stack-up.
  • Experience with precision-machined parts in low-volume, prototype and production environments.
  • Experience with complex aerospace, defence, medical or high-precision components is strongly preferred.
