Job summary

Surface Tech Industries in India – Karnataka is seeking a Process/Manufacturing Engineer to interpret complex drawings, plan manufacturing sequences, and lead cross-functional teams in developing robust, GD&T-compliant processes. You will prepare stage drawings, implement PFMEA controls, and drive continuous improvement across production stages.

Responsibilities include defining inspection methods, coordinating with Quality and CNC teams, and managing ECN changes while ensuring updated

Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and standards.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and process planning.
  • Strong GD&T understanding and datum structures.
  • Prepare stage/process drawings with tolerances and allowances.
  • Familiarity with inspection methods and measuring equipment.
  • Experience with Control Plans and PFMEA.
  • Lead cross-functional discussions with Production, Quality, and other departments.
  • Experience with ECN/Engineering Change Management.
  • Assess and implement drawing revisions effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of CNC machining and precision manufacturing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings, specs, notes, and standards.
  • Understand customer drawing requirements including tolerances, materials, finishes, and inspection needs.
  • Develop and interpret the manufacturing process to meet drawings.
  • Prepare detailed process plans and manufacturing sequences for components.
  • Develop stage drawings with correct tolerances for operations.
  • Define machining allowances, datums, tolerances, and process dimensions in stage drawings.
  • Ensure stage drawings are accurate and support repeatable manufacturing.
  • Apply GD&T knowledge in drawing interpretation, planning, and inspection.
  • Define inspection methods and measurement techniques based on GD&T requirements.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, CNC Programming, Tooling and others to develop robust processes.
  • Lead preparation/review of Control Plans and PFMEA with Cross-Functional Team support.
  • Identify process risks, special characteristics, controls, and reaction plans.
  • Participate in process improvement, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Manage ECN process for revisions and engineering changes.
  • Review impact of revisions on processes, drawings, tooling, documentation, and production.
  • Ensure updated documents are properly implemented and controlled.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and ensure latest revision is available for manufacturing.
  • Support production during new product introduction, first-off production, and validation.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, manufacturability, and quality gains.

Role & responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, notes, and applicable standards.
  • Understand customer drawing requirements, including dimensional, material, surface finish, heat treatment, coating, and inspection requirements.
  • Develop and interpret the manufacturing process required to manufacture components as per the given engineering drawing.
  • Prepare detailed process plans and manufacturing sequences for components.
  • Develop stage drawings for different manufacturing operations, ensuring that intermediate dimensions and tolerances are correctly defined to achieve the requirements of the final operation.
  • Define appropriate machining allowances, datums, references, tolerances, and process dimensions in stage drawings.
  • Ensure stage drawings are technically accurate and support efficient and repeatable manufacturing.
  • Apply strong knowledge of GD&T in drawing interpretation, process planning, and inspection requirements.
  • Define appropriate inspection methods and measurement techniques based on drawing and GD&T requirements.
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, CNC Programming, Tooling, and other functions to develop robust manufacturing processes.
  • Lead the preparation and review of Control Plans and PFMEA with support from the Cross-Functional Team (CFT).
  • Ensure process risks, special characteristics, controls, inspection methods, and reaction plans are appropriately identified.
  • Participate in process improvement, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions related to manufacturing issues.
  • Manage and coordinate the Engineering Change Note (ECN) process for drawing revisions and engineering changes.
  • Review the impact of drawing revisions on processes, stage drawings, tooling, inspection methods, programs, documentation, and existing production.
  • Ensure revised drawings and related engineering documents are properly implemented and controlled.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and ensure the latest approved revision is available for manufacturing.
  • Support production during new product introduction, first-off production, and process proving activities.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, improved manufacturability, and quality improvement.
Required Technical Skills
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and applicable technical standards.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes and process planning.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and datum structures.
  • Ability to prepare accurate stage/process drawings with appropriate tolerances and machining allowances.
  • Good knowledge of inspection methods and measuring equipment.
  • Strong understanding of Control Plan and PFMEA methodologies.
  • Ability to lead CFT discussions and coordinate inputs from Production, Quality, and other departments.
  • Good knowledge of Engineering Change Note (ECN) / Engineering Change Management processes.
  • Ability to assess and implement drawing revisions effectively.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of CNC machining and precision manufacturing processes is preferred.
Preferred candidate profile
  • 3-4 years of Experience in aerospace, precision engineering, or high-accuracy manufacturing.
  • Experience working with complex machined components and tight-tolerance requirements.
  • Experience with customer-specific drawing standards and specifications.
  • Exposure to APQP, FAI, PPAP, Control Plan, PFMEA, and process validation is an advantage.
  • Experience working with engineering/CAD software for preparation and modification of stage drawings.
