Job summary

Shanti Informatics is seeking a seasoned Head of Counselling to lead a large student engagement team. You will ensure every enquiry receives timely, thoughtful guidance and set daily rhythms to maintain high-quality, consistent student interactions.

You will own end‑to‑end team development, including hiring, onboarding and performance reviews, coach counsellors to listen empathetically, and forecast capacity for peak periods.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years in student engagement, admissions or counselling, with at least 2–3 years in a team leadership role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead meaningful conversations with students and parents.
  • Data-driven mindset with ability to read reports, spot trends, and base decisions on evidence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Team Performance: Ensure every student enquiry receives timely, thoughtful and complete response, and manage day-to-day performance of counselling team.
  • Lead & Develop the Team End-to-End: Manage hiring, onboarding, goal-setting, reviews and day-to-day people management for the counselling team.
  • Ownership of Outcomes: Coach counsellors on empathetic listening and guidance; step in personally on complex conversations with students and families.
  • Analyse, Report & Improve: Track admissions metrics and report insights to leadership with data-backed recommendations.
  • Plan Capacity & Manage High-Volume Engagement: Forecast demand, plan rosters and priorities for peak periods to keep students from waiting.

Job description

Role & responsibilities:
1. Lead Team Performance
  • Ensure that every student enquiry receives a timely, thoughtful and complete response, so no prospective student is left without guidance. Own the day-to-day performance and effectiveness of the counselling team, ensuring consistent, high-quality engagement with every student. Set clear objectives and daily working rhythms for the team, track progress, and step in early to support counsellors.
2. Lead & Develop the Team End-to-End
  • Manage the counselling team end-to-end hiring, onboarding, goal-setting, reviews and day-to-day people management.
  • Identify development needs, run regular training and enablement, and build a strong bench of future team leaders.
3. Ownership of Outcomes
  • Coach counsellors on the craft of empathetic, consultations listening carefully, understanding each students aspirations, and guiding them with clarity and honesty.
  • Step in personally on important or complex conversations with students and families to ensure they receive the clarity and guidance they need.
  • Continuously refine processes to make the admissions experience smoother for students and more effective for the team.
4. Analyse, Report & Improve
  • Track and analyse team and admissions metrics to understand what is working well and where students need more support.
  • Report team performance and key insights to leadership with clear, data-backed recommendations.
5. Plan Capacity & Manage High-Volume Engagement
  • Plan and manage the day-to-day productivity of a large counselling team operating at high daily interaction volumes, ensuring capacity always matches incoming student demand.
  • Forecast demand around peak periods such as application deadlines and intake cycles, and plan rosters, workloads and priorities so no student waits for a response.
  • Monitor real-time activity and responsiveness, set clear productivity benchmarks, and reallocate effort quickly to keep the team consistently on-pace.
Preferred candidate profile:

A genuine interest in education and in helping young people make important decisions about their future.

A strong, empathetic people leader who can bring out the best in a student-facing team while holding a high bar on quality.

6+ years of experience in student engagement, admissions, counselling, or other relationship-driven, customer-facing roles, with at least 23 years in a team leadership position.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the credibility to lead meaningful conversations with students and parents.

Comfort with data able to read reports, spot trends, and make thoughtful, evidence-based decisions.
