Job summary

WalkingTree Technologies is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join its technology team in Bangalore/Chennai. The role focuses on hands-on development, design ownership, and delivering secure, scalable applications for our lending platform.

You will work closely with architects, product teams, and DevOps to implement REST APIs, microservices, and cloud-based solutions in AWS/Azure. Strong Java, Spring Boot, and containerization skills are required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience in Java/J2EE.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices.
• Proficient in REST APIs, Docker/Kubernetes, and relational/NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems and API gateways like NGINX.
• Knowledge of AD authentication, testing frameworks, and cloud (AWS/Azure).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java applications with Spring Boot and microservices.
• Own modules from requirements through design, development, tests, and deployment.
• Collaborate with architects, product teams, and DevOps for reliable releases.

Role Objective

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to join our Technology team and

contribute to building secure, scalable, and high-performance applications for our lending

platform.

The candidate will be responsible for hands-on software development, technical design,

module ownership, and delivery while working closely with architects, developers,

product/business teams, and other stakeholders.

The role requires strong hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs,

databases, messaging systems, Docker/Kubernetes, and cloud technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable applications using Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, and Microservices.
• Take ownership of assigned modules from requirement understanding through design, development, testing, and production deployment.
• Work in an Agile/Scrum development environment and actively participate in sprint planning, estimation, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, business teams, and developers to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Work with API Gateways such as NGINX and authentication mechanisms including Active Directory (AD).
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL and CouchDB, including database design, queries, and performance optimization.
• Implement messaging and event-driven solutions using Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Develop and maintain automated unit/integration tests using JUnit, Mockito, Selenium, or Cucumber.
• Work with Docker and Kubernetes for application containerization and deployment.
• Collaborate with DevOps/cloud teams on deployments and application troubleshooting across AWS/Azure environments.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding, security, performance, and quality standards.
• Identify technical risks, troubleshoot production issues, and drive issues to resolution.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior developers.
• Contribute to technical discussions, solution design, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Mandatory Skills

• 4.5+ years of relevant software development experience
• Strong hands-on experience in Java/J2EE
• Strong experience with Spring Boot and Microservices
• Good understanding of REST APIs
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL; CouchDB is preferred
• Experience with Kafka or other messaging systems
• Experience with API Gateway, preferably NGINX
• Understanding of AD authentication
• Experience with JUnit/Mockito or equivalent testing frameworks
• Working knowledge of AWS or Azure
• Good understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, OOP, and Design Patterns
• Good understanding of Agile SDLC

• Basic hands-on exposure to ReactJS/Angular/JavaScript
• Experience with Selenium/Cucumber
