Job summary

Brakes India is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Chennai to design assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components for SPMs, Test Rigs, and automation systems. You will perform design calculations, validate functionality, and ensure adherence to standards and specifications.

Responsibilities include coordinating with internal teams to meet timelines, developing cost-effective designs, and supporting manufacturing and assembly with technical solutions.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

Design & Development

• Design assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components for Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), Test Rigs, and Automation Systems.
• Perform design calculations, validate functionality, and ensure compliance with design standards and specifications.

Project Schedule Adherence

• Complete design activities as per the project plan and agreed timelines.
• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely release of design deliverables.

Cost-Effective Design

• Develop optimized designs that meet functional requirements while maintaining target costs.
• Support value engineering and cost reduction initiatives.

Manufacturing & Assembly Support

• Provide technical solutions for manufacturing and assembly-related issues.
• Work closely with production and assembly teams to resolve design concerns and improve product performance.

Drawing & Documentation Control

• Prepare, maintain, and update design drawings, BOMs, and engineering documents.
• Ensure compliance with company standards for drawing storage, revision control, and documentation.

CAD Design Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, 3D Modelling, and Design Simulation tools.
• Knowledge of bearings, ball screws, linear guides, rotary tables, spindle units, machine structures, conveyors, transfer systems, and robotics.
• Ability to design cost-effective solutions and troubleshoot engineering issues.

Manufacturing Process Knowledge

• Understanding of machining processes, fabrication, tooling, fixtures, assembly practices, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).

Qualification & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Relevant experience in the design and development of SPMs, Test Rigs, and Automation Systems.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and cross-functional coordination skills.

Design and develop SPMs, Test Rigs, and Automation Systems, including 3D models, drawings, and BOMs, while ensuring cost-effective solutions, timely project delivery, and support for manufacturing and assembly activities.
