Thompsons HR Consulting Pvt Ltd in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, seeks a senior mechanical design engineer to design Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), automation equipment, and custom machinery based on customer requirements.

You will develop 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks, prepare 2D fabrication drawings in AutoCAD, and coordinate with production, electrical, automation, quality and vendors through project execution.

Qualifications

B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Production Engineering.
2–8 years of relevant experience in SPM design and industrial automation.

Responsibilities

Design and develop Special Purpose Machines (SPM), automation equipment, and custom machinery.
Develop 3D models, machine assemblies, layouts, and detailed manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
Prepare 2D fabrication and manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD.
Create detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views, and BOMs.
Develop machine concepts considering functionality, manufacturability, assembly, maintenance, safety, and cost.
Design jigs, fixtures, tooling, grippers, conveyors, nests, and mechanical mechanisms.
Perform mechanism design and motion analysis for automated machine applications.
Select appropriate mechanical components such as bearings, linear guides, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, pneumatic cylinders, motors, and actuators.
Prepare and maintain BOMs, component specifications, and engineering documentation.
Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, fits, clearances, and tolerance stack-up in mechanical designs.
Coordinate with Production, Manufacturing, Electrical, Automation, Quality, Purchase, and Vendors during project execution.
Work with automation engineers for integration of PLC, sensors, pneumatic systems, servo motors, VFDs, and other automation components.
Support machine assembly, testing, debugging, trials, installation, and commissioning.
Identify and resolve mechanical design issues during machine build and production trials.
Modify designs based on trial results, customer feedback, and manufacturing requirements.
Coordinate with vendors for machining, fabrication, sheet-metal work, bought-out components, and special components.
Optimize machine designs for cycle time, productivity, reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness.
Conduct design reviews and ensure proper drawing revision and document control.
Support FAT, SAT, customer trials, and final machine handover.
