Senior Engineer_ Battery Applications and Integration
Function: Battery Engineering | Experience: 4+ years | Reports to: Sr. Manager Battery Applications Engineering | Location: Hyderabad
Role Overview
Hands-on engineering role responsible for HV Li-ion battery pack integration, commissioning, debugging and application support for automotive programs. The role will work across BMS, Pack, Vehicle Controls, Software and Testing teams to ensure seamless battery system integration from prototype builds through validation and field support.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute HV battery pack integration and system bring-up with VCU, BMS, inverter, charger, thermal systems and vehicle controls.
- Perform electronic handshaking and CAN/CAN-FD debugging; analyze CAN traces, DBCs, DTCs, diagnostic messages, alarms and BMS parameters.
- Debug HV, electrical, electronic, communication, BMS and thermal issues during bench, prototype, vehicle and field operation.
- Support validation of BMS functions, SOC/SOH/SOP, HVIL, contactors, pre-charge, isolation monitoring, protection and derating strategies.
- Support battery/vehicle builds, commissioning, test execution and issue tracking through development and launch.
- Reproduce failures and drive root-cause analysis and corrective-action closure with Pack, BMS, Software, Controls and Testing teams.
- Support battery application requirements, test cases, diagnostic strategies and validation plans.
- Maintain integration procedures, troubleshooting guides, test reports and technical issue databases.
- Support field/customer escalations and rapid resolution of battery system issues.
- Follow stringent HV safety procedures during battery and vehicle-level activities.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Automotive, Mechatronics, Controls or related engineering.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in Li-ion battery pack applications/integration engineering, preferably automotive/EV.
- Strong practical experience in HV battery integration, commissioning and system debugging.
- Good understanding of BMS, HVIL, contactors, pre-charge, isolation monitoring, charging and battery protection.
- Hands-on knowledge of CAN/CAN-FD and UDS with tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape, Vehicle Spy or equivalent.
- Ability to interpret CAN logs, DBC files, DTCs, diagnostic messages and system data.
- Understanding of SOC/SOH/SOP, charge/discharge limits, thermal derating and battery protection.
- Experience with prototype builds, vehicle integration and system-level troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of HV safety and safe working practices.
Preferred Skills
- EV/HEV battery application experience with exposure to BMS calibration, HIL, embedded software or battery testing.
- Working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink or Python for data analysis.
- Experience with structured problem solving such as 8D, 5-Why and Fishbone analysis.
- Experience working with multiple cross-functional engineering teams and external suppliers/partners.
