Deputy General Manager_Battery Systems Engineering

Role Overview
Lead the Battery Systems Engineering & Architecture function for HV Li-ion battery systems across BEV, HEV and PHEV applications. Own battery system architecture, energy management, requirements, interfaces and system integration from concept through validation and SOP. The role requires strong technical leadership, system-level thinking and the ability to work across multiple internal teams, external partners and global engineering organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end battery system architecture for BEV/HEV/PHEV programs, translating vehicle requirements into battery energy, power, voltage, capacity, thermal and life requirements.
- Lead BEV energy management and HEV battery strategies, including SOC management, regenerative braking, charge/discharge power limits, thermal derating, peak power and enginebattery coordination.
- Drive battery sizing and system optimization using vehicle performance, drive cycles, duty cycles, customer usage and lifecycle requirements.
- Define system architecture covering cells/modules, BMS, HV distribution, contactors, pre-charge, HVIL, isolation, sensing, cooling and vehicle interfaces.
- Own system requirements, functional interfaces, operating modes, diagnostics, fault handling, protection strategies and DFMEA.
- Lead system-level modeling, simulation and validation, including energy consumption, power capability, SOC/SOH behavior and battery life.
- Drive cross-functional integration with BMS, Cell Technology, Pack Engineering, Vehicle Controls, Powertrain, Thermal, Charging and Software teams.
- Support prototype builds, vehicle integration, calibration, testing and resolution of complex system-level issues through SOP.
- Lead technical engagement with cell/BMS/HV component suppliers, technology partners and top-tier Engineering Service Providers (ESPs).
- Establish battery architecture standards, system engineering processes, reusable platforms and technical best practices.
- Build and lead a high-performing Battery Systems Engineering & Architecture team.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Automotive, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Controls or related engineering.
- 10+ years of HV Li-ion battery systems engineering/architecture experience, with strong automotive EV/HEV exposure.
- Proven experience delivering battery systems from concept to production/SOP.
- Strong expertise in BEV energy management and HEV/PHEV battery systems.
- Deep knowledge of battery sizing, SOC/SOH/SOP, regenerative braking, BMS, HV architecture, thermal management and battery degradation.
- Experience with drive-cycle analysis, system modeling/simulation and energy optimization.
- Working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink, Python or equivalent engineering tools.
- Strong understanding of functional safety, DFMEA, requirements engineering and system validation.
Leadership & Global Exposure
- Proven ability to lead and influence multiple multidisciplinary internal and external teams.
- Experience working with top-tier ESPs, global suppliers and technology partners is highly desirable.
- International/overseas work experience or exposure with global automotive OEMs, battery companies or engineering organizations is a strong advantage.
- Strong stakeholder and supplier management skills with excellent technical communication.
- Ability to balance performance, safety, reliability, cost, weight and time-to-market.
