Job summary

HYT Engineering in Pune, Maharashtra invites a Sr. Design Engineer with 5-8 years of mechanical design experience to lead and execute design projects from concept through manufacturing.

You will design with SolidWorks and AutoCAD, apply GD&T, develop SPMs and automation equipment, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring drawings, BOMs, and documentation meet quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5-8 years of relevant experience in mechanical design and engineering.
• Experience in machine design, automation, SPM, or industrial equipment design preferred.
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Design & drafting using SolidWorks and AutoCAD; produce accurate, production-ready drawings.
• Perform mechanical design calculations; apply GD&T principles.
• Design Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), automation systems, jigs and fixtures.
• Prepare GA, assembly/sub-assembly drawings, BOM and manufacturing drawings; ensure clarity and accuracy.
• Coordinate with Production, Purchase and Marketing/Project teams to meet design feasibility and project requirements.

Job Description Sr. Design Engineer

Position: Sr. Design Engineer
Department: Design / Engineering
Experience: 5-8 Years
Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Drafting

• Develop and modify 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Prepare accurate and production-ready engineering drawings.
• Ensure designs meet required technical specifications and standards.

2. Design Calculations & GD&T

• Perform necessary mechanical design calculations.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure dimensional accuracy and functional requirements.
• Review designs for manufacturability, reliability, and performance.

3. Special Purpose Machine & Automation Design

• Design and develop Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), industrial automation systems, jigs, and fixtures.
• Develop machine concepts and convert them into detailed engineering designs.
• Design machine tools, fixture systems, automation equipment, and related assemblies.

4. Assembly & Manufacturing Drawings

• Prepare:
• General arrangement/layout drawings
• Assembly and sub-assembly drawings
• Detailed manufacturing drawings
• Bill of Materials (BOM)
• Ensure drawings and documentation are clear, accurate, and suitable for manufacturing.

5. Technical Coordination

• Coordinate with Production, Purchase, and Marketing/Project teams to ensure design feasibility and project requirements are met.
• Provide technical support during manufacturing, assembly, testing, and commissioning.
• Resolve design-related technical issues in coordination with relevant departments.

6. Team Leadership

• Lead and mentor junior design engineers and trainees.
• Review the work of team members and provide technical guidance.
• Allocate and monitor design activities to ensure timely project completion.

Required Skills & Knowledge

• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Good knowledge of machine elements and pneumatic systems.
• Experience in designing assemblies, sub-assemblies, SPMs, jigs, fixtures, and automation equipment.
• Strong understanding of GD&T.
• Basic understanding of PLCs, servo motors, sensors, and electrical control panels.
• Ability to prepare and interpret manufacturing drawings and BOMs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good attention to detail and design accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Qualification & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5-8 years of relevant experience in mechanical design and engineering.
• Relevant experience in machine design, automation, SPM, or industrial equipment design will be preferred.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in industrial automation and Special Purpose Machine (SPM) design.
• Experience in developing complete machine concepts from design through manufacturing.
• Prior experience in leading or mentoring a team of design engineers.
• Exposure to machine tool design and manufacturing processes.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should have strong hands‑on experience in mechanical machine design, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, GD&T, SPMs, automation, and assembly design, along with the ability to independently handle design projects and guide junior team members.
