Job Summary

The Service Asset Configuration Management (SACM) Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the organization's IT asset and configuration information. This role plays a critical part in supporting IT service delivery, incident management, problem management, change management, and overall IT goverce. The Specialist will manage the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), track the lifecycle of IT assets, and enforce SACM policies and procedures to ensure a reliable and up-to-date repository of IT infrastructure and services.

Responsibilities

• CMDB Data Foundation Management
  • Administer and continuously improve the ServiceNow CMDB as the authoritative source of configuration and service data.
  • Design, implement, and maintain Configuration Item (CI) classes, identification rules, reconciliation rules, and relationship models.
  • Align CMDB structure and processes with the Common Service Data Model (CSDM) framework.
  • Establish and maintain logical and service-based relationships across business applications, services, infrastructure, cloud resources, and technology assets.
  • Monitor and improve CMDB health metrics, including completeness, correctness, compliance, and relationship integrity.
  • Conduct regular audits and data quality assessments to identify and remediate configuration data issues.
• Discovery, Service Mapping Automation
  • Configure, and maintain ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping capabilities.
  • Ensure automated population and maintece of CI records through discovery, integrations, and reconciliation processes.
  • Develop and maintain service maps to support incident management, problem management, change management, risk analysis, and operational visibility.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, application, and platform teams to improve CI coverage and service dependency mapping.
  • Leverage automation and workflow capabilities to improve configuration data accuracy and operational efficiency.
• Asset Service Lifecycle Management
  • Manage the lifecycle of hardware, software, cloud, virtual, and application assets from acquisition through retirement.
  • Ensure asset records remain synchronized with CMDB configuration data.
  • Support Hardware Asset Management (HAM) and Software Asset Management (SAM) processes, including compliance monitoring and optimization activities.
  • Maintain service ownership, support ownership, and accountability structures within the CMDB and service portfolio.
• CMDB Goverce Compliance
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce SACM goverce policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Establish data stewardship and ownership models for configuration and asset data.
  • Define governece controls for CI creation, modification, retirement, and relationship management.
  • Facilitate goverce forums and periodic reviews to ensure ongoing compliance with organizational standards.
  • Ensure adherence to ITIL, ServiceNow best practices, and enterprise goverce requirements.
• Service Portfolio CSDM Enablement
  • Support implementation and adoption of CSDM across business services, technical services, applications, and infrastructure domains.
  • Partner with service owners and business stakeholders to define service taxonomies, service offerings, and service relationships.
  • Maintain accurate service ownership and support models within the CMDB.
  • Enable downstream ServiceNow capabilities that rely on trusted CMDB data, including Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, Event Management, AIOps, and Operational Resilience.
• Reporting, Analytics Continual Improvement
  • Develop dashboards and performance metrics for CMDB health, service mapping coverage, asset compliance, and data goverce.
  • Analyze trends and provide recommendations to improve data quality and operational effectiveness.
  • Support executive reporting related to CMDB maturity, service visibility, operational risk, and asset optimization.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement through process enhancements, automation, and emerging ServiceNow capabilities.
• Collaboration Stakeholder Engagement
  • Partner with Service Owners, Application Owners, Infrastructure Teams, Cloud Teams, Security, Architecture, and IT Operations stakeholders.
  • Provide training, coaching, and guidance on SACM, CSDM, Discovery, Service Mapping, and CMDB best practices.
  • Support projects, platform initiatives, audits, and transformation programs requiring accurate asset and configuration data.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for ServiceNow CMDB, CSDM, Discovery, and SACM processes.

Qualifications Enhanced ServiceNow-Specific Qualifications

• Strong expertise in ServiceNow CMDB, Discovery, Service Mapping, and CSDM.
• Expertise in using NowAssist skills to manage CMDB and Data Foundation
• Experience implementing Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) and CMDB goverce controls.
• Knowledge of CMDB Health, data certification, and data quality management practices.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure discovery (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid environments.
• Familiarity with Service Graph Connectors, integrations, APIs, and automated data ingestion.
• Understanding of operational dependencies supporting Incident, Problem, Change, Event, and Asset Management.
