Tata Projects is seeking a Quality Inspection Engineer (Industrial Structures) to lead QA plans and ITPs for fabrications. You will oversee inspections from material receipt through painting, interpret drawings and welding symbols, and ensure compliance with IS 7215, ASME IX & V, VIII, and AWS D1.1.
A strong emphasis on root-cause analysis and CAPA is required. Minimum 5 years in industrial steel structures with ASNT NDT Level-II and welding inspection expertise, based in Jamshedpur.
1)Name of Position : Quality Inspection Engineer (Industrial Structures)
a)Develop, implement, and monitor Quality Assurance Plans (QAP) and Inspection Test Plans (ITP) for fabricated industrial steel structures.
b)Conduct comprehensive inspections at all stages of fabrication, including raw material verification, in-process welding inspections, and final surface preparation and painting.
c)Interpret complex structural fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and projection drawings to ensure compliance with design specifications.
d)Ensure strict adherence to relevant industry codes and standards, including IS 7215, ASME Sec IX & V, Section VIII, and AWS D1.1, as well as customer-specific requirements.
e)Manage and oversee welding quality, including review of WPS, PQR, WQT, identification of weld defects, and verification of welding processes and parameters.
f)Conduct thorough inspection of raw materials for grade identification and defect analysis.
g)Oversee and document all inspection activities, maintaining comprehensive records and generating detailed reports.
h)Developing root cause analysis for quality discrepancies and implement corrective and preventive actions.
i)Ensure compliance with ISB Quality standards throughout all processes.
j)Collaborate with production, engineering, and vendor team to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement.
a)Educational Qualification: Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
b)Required Certifications
Must-Have: ASNT NDT Level-II (UT, MT, PT, RT interpretations)
Good to have:
(aCertified Welding Inspector (CWI, CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent)
(b)QMS/IMS certification and/or any other Quality certification
a)Overall Experience: Min 5 Years in relevant field
b)Relevant Work Experience:
a)Drawing Interpretation: Proficient in reading and interpreting structural fabrication drawings, welding symbols (ASME/AWS), and understanding drawing projections.
b)Codes & Standards: Expertise in national and international standards including IS 7215, ASME Section IX & V, Section VIII, AWS D1.1, and general measurement techniques and tolerances.
c)Welding Quality: Comprehensive knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), Welder Qualification Tests (WQT), various welding processes, weld defects identification, and inspection methodologies (before, during, and post-welding).
d)Material Science: Strong understanding of raw material grades, material identification, and common material defects.
e)Process & Documentation: Familiarity with Quality Assurance Plans (QAP), Inspection Test Plans (ITP), quality inspection of structural fabrication, and conversant with quality inspection protocols and documentation management.
f)Surface Preparation & Painting: Basic understanding of surface preparation, blasting, and painting processes, including relevant inspection techniques and standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE).
g)Quality Management Systems: Knowledge of QM/ISO 9001 principles and problem-solving and conducting Root Cause Analysis.
