Job summary

Morcom Induction Private Limited in India is seeking a Purchase Executive to manage plastics and moulding supply chains, including polymer granules, moulded parts, and packaging materials.

You will source polymers from producers and distributors, negotiate prices, ensure quality with COA, track market movements, and coordinate with the injection moulding shop to minimize idle time. The role demands cost-conscious buying and supplier management.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Plastic Granules & Raw Polymers Grade selection with engineering: Buy the right polymer for each part - PP homo / co-polymer for bodies and bases, ABS / HIPS for cosmetic covers, PC for transparent parts, PBT / PA66-GF and heat-resistant grades near heating elements, food-contact grades for kettle parts and UL94 flame-retardant grades where the product standard needs them - always against the BOM and the approved datasheet, never a "similar" grade.
  • Producer vs. distributor buying: Develop sources across producers (Reliance, HPCL-Mittal, IOCL, GAIL, Haldia and importers) and their authorised distributors; know when a direct producer contract beats a dealer and when it does not.
  • Price tracking: Track producer price circulars and polymer market movements; time purchases and negotiate price-linked arrangements so Morcom never pays last month's peak in a falling market.
  • Masterbatch & additives: Source colour masterbatch (shade-matched to customer references), UV / antistatic additives and fillers; control shade approvals with Quality.
  • Quality at receipt: Insist on a Certificate of Analysis for every lot; coordinate MFI, moisture and visual checks with IQC; reject mixed, repacked or wet material.
  • Regrind & scrap: Work with the moulding shop on runner / regrind ratios and the sale of plastic scrap at the right rate, with weighment controls.

Job description

ROLE PURPOSE Morcom is an ODM / OEM manufacturer of induction cooktops, infrared cookers, electric kettles and OTGs, and is setting up its own in-house injection moulding shop. The Purchase Executive - Plastics & Moulding owns everything that is plastic in that business: the polymer granules that feed the machines, the moulded parts still bought from outside moulders, the polybags and film that protect the finished product - and the injection moulding machines, auxiliaries, moulds and spares themselves. The role must buy the right grade (food-contact, heat-resistant or flame-retardant as the part demands), at a price that tracks the polymer market rather than a trader's margin, and keep the moulding shop running without a single machine standing idle for want of material or a spare part.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. 1. Producer vs. distributor buying: Develop sources across producers (Reliance, HPCL-Mittal, IOCL, GAIL, Haldia and importers) and their authorised distributors; know when a direct producer contract beats a dealer and when it does not. Price tracking: Track producer price circulars and polymer market movements; time purchases and negotiate price-linked arrangements so Morcom never pays last month's peak in a falling market. Masterbatch & additives: Source colour masterbatch (shade-matched to customer references), UV / antistatic additives and fillers; control shade approvals with Quality. Quality at receipt: Insist on a Certificate of Analysis for every lot; coordinate MFI, moisture and visual checks with IQC; reject mixed, repacked or wet material. Regrind & scrap: Work with the moulding shop on runner / regrind ratios and the sale of plastic scrap at the right rate, with weighment controls.
  2. 2. Moulded Parts & Outside Moulders Vendor base: Manage outside moulders for parts not yet made in-house - capacity, machine tonnage, mould condition, and first-article approval. Should-cost: Build a should-cost for every moulded part: part weight + runner * polymer rate + machine-hour rate * cycle time / cavities + rejection + margin - and negotiate from that number, not from the vendor’s quote. Mould ownership: Track moulds owned by Morcom lying at vendors - mould register, shot count, maintenance and return on demand. Make-or-buy input: Provide cost data that helps management decide which parts move into the in-house moulding shop.
  3. 3. Polybags, Film & Plastic Packaging Specification: Buy LD / HM / PP polybags, BOPP, stretch film and bubble wrap to a written spec - size, micron, printing, vent holes and warning text - and verify weight per 1,000 bags against the micron ordered. Compliance: Ensure polybags and plastic packaging meet the Plastic Waste Management Rules (minimum thickness, marking) and support the company’s EPR documentation.
  4. 4. Injection Moulding Machines, Auxiliaries, Moulds & Spares Machine specification: Prepare technical comparatives for injection moulding machines - clamping tonnage, shot weight, screw diameter and L/D, tie-bar distance, platen size, daylight, servo vs. conventional hydraulics, energy consumption, controller - so management compares like with like. Auxiliaries: Source hopper dryers, mould temperature controllers, chillers, cooling towers, auto-loaders, granulators, robots / pickers and compressors, sized to the machines they serve. Spares & consumables: Build and maintain a critical-spares list with Maintenance - heater bands, thermocouples, nozzle tips, check rings, screw & barrel, hydraulic seals, pumps, valves, proportional cards, servo drives, hydra
