Job summary

Lightstorm Telecom Connectivity seeks a field supervisor to oversee on-ground fiber deployment activities, including cable laying, splicing, testing, and restoration, ensuring adherence to designs, SOPs and safety standards.

The role requires planning work fronts, managing manpower and equipment, tracking progress, coordinating with contractors and authorities, and maintaining proper documentation and reporting. Travel and extended field deployments may be required to meet project timelines.

Qualifications

• Diploma / B.Tech / B.E. in Telecommunications, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 68 years of experience in fiber optic project execution, deployment and field supervision.
• Strong hands-on experience in fiber splicing and OTDR/power meter testing.
• Experience in fiber cable laying, installation, testing, restoration and network deployment.
• Good understanding of ROW/wayleave, site permissions, work-front planning, and field execution.
• Proven experience managing field engineers, fiber technicians, splicers, contractors and subcontractors.
• Strong capability in project tracking, issue escalation, productivity monitoring and daily progress reporting.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and project reporting tools.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to coordinate with partners, contractors, internal teams and local authorities.
• Field-oriented and willing to travel/deploy for extended execution periods, including extended working hours when required.
• Analytical, target-driven, detail-oriented, customer-focused and committed to quality and safety.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and control on-ground fiber deployment activities including cable laying, installation, splicing, testing and restoration.
• Plan and validate work fronts by ensuring availability of approved drawings, ROW/permissions, materials, manpower, machinery and site access.
• Monitor daily execution plans, crew productivity, project progress and adherence to planned timelines and run rates.
• Oversee fiber deployment activities across aerial, underground, duct, micro-trenching and HDD methods.
• Oversee fiber cable installation, joint closures, splicing, FDMS/ODF/rack installation, cable handling, labelling and tagging.
• Conduct and supervise fiber splicing and OTDR/power meter testing, ensuring compliance with link loss budgets and testing requirements.
• Ensure execution complies with approved designs, specifications, SOPs, quality standards and safety requirements.
• Conduct site inspections, identify non-conformities, drive corrective actions and ensure snag/punch-point closure.
• Monitor material consumption against BOQ/BOM, identify shortages or wastage and ensure proper storage and protection of materials.
• Maintain route-wise issue and risk trackers covering ROW, permissions, third-party damages, material/manpower constraints and dependencies.
• Escalate critical issues through DOA and coordinate with internal teams, partners, contractors and local authorities for timely resolution.
• Prepare and maintain DPRs, progress reports, site records, photographs, manpower/equipment reports, issue logs and as-built documentation.
• Coordinate with partners and contractors for site inspections, SAT/final inspections, punch-list closure and project handover.
• Support root-cause analysis and recovery planning for cable cuts, execution stoppages, delays and other field-level issues.
• Ensure adherence to safety practices including PPE, excavation controls, traffic management, toolbox talks and incident/near-miss reporting.
