Job summary

4M Innovations Chennai is seeking an experienced Production Manager to oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations in our automotive components plant. You will drive line productivity, ensure output quality per IATF 16949, and optimize costs while mentoring shift supervisors and technicians.

You will lead Lean, 5S, Kaizen, SMED, and TPM on the shop floor, monitor OEE and scrap, and coordinate with Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to keep production on schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Production, Automobile, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 12–15+ years of experience in automotive component manufacturing, with at least 2–3 years in a managerial role.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute daily, weekly and monthly production schedules.
  • Maintain zero-defect culture and ensure IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Lead Lean, 5S, Kaizen, SMED, and TPM to enhance shop floor efficiency.
  • Direct, coach, and supervise shift engineers, line supervisors, and operators.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance and Supply Chain for materials and downtime.

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and results-driven Production Manager to oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations in our automotive components plant. In this role, you will be responsible for line productivity, maintaining high-quality output in accordance with automotive quality standards (IATF 16949), optimizing costs, managing shift supervisors and technicians, and implementing Lean/Kaizen practices on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Execution
  • Plan and execute daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer demand and master planning forecasts.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of machinery, workforce, and material resources to meet On-Time Delivery (OTD) targets.
  • Identify production bottlenecks and take immediate corrective actions to minimize downtime.
2. Quality Assurance & Automotive Standards
  • Maintain zero-defect culture on the shop floor and ensure strict adherence to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Work closely with Quality Control/Assurance teams to handle non-conformance issues, customer audits, and implementation of CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).
  • Participate in APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) activities for new product launches.
3. Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, SMED, and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) initiatives to enhance shop floor efficiency.
  • Drive continuous reduction in cycle time, scrap percentage, rework, and operational waste.
  • Monitor key operational metrics including OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), rejection rates, and yield.
4. Team Management & Shop Floor Safety
  • Direct, coach, and supervise shift engineers, line supervisors, and operators.
  • Manage shift rostering, manpower allocation, skill matrix development, and overtime planning.
  • Enforce safety protocols (EHS/OSHA) to maintain an accident-free work environment.
5. Maintenance & Resource Coordination
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance team for preventive and breakdown maintenance of machines (e.g., CNC, Stamping Press, Injection Molding, Assembly lines, Robotics).
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Procurement to ensure uninterrupted raw material availability.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Production, Automobile, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience: [12 – 15+] years of experience in automotive component manufacturing, with at least [2–3] years in a managerial role.
  • Core Technical Knowledge:
    • Hands-on experience with auto component process technologies (e.g., Precision Machining, Sheet Metal Stamping, Plastic Injection Molding, Welding, or Assembly lines).
    • Deep understanding of IATF 16949 standards and core quality tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA).
    • Strong expertise in OEE calculation, TPM, and Lean tools.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / MS Dynamics) and production monitoring software.
