Job summary

Hort Bio Technologies in Budalur, Tamil Nadu, is seeking a Production Manager to plan and supervise end-to-end coir block manufacturing. You will coordinate raw materials, machinery, and quality control to meet daily targets and maintain cost efficiency.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong organization, and a willingness to relocate, with a focus on safety, documentation, and continuous improvement across production lines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production plans to achieve targets for coir blocks.
• Monitor the availability and quality of raw materials and ensure storage and procurement alignment.
• Supervise coir pith processing activities (screening, sieving, drying, washing, etc.).
• Oversee block compression, press operations, cutting, weighing and packing.
• Maintain moisture, EC, pH, size, density, weight per customer specs and test samples.
• Monitor costs across labour, energy, water, packaging and maintenance.
• Supervise production workers, shifts, attendance and training.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of dryers, conveyors and packing equipment.
• Respond to machine breakdowns with maintenance coordination to minimize downtime.
• Maintain production reports, material consumption, downtime and quality records.
• Drive continuous improvement and customer-specific production.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Production Planning: Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production plans to achieve targets for coir blocks while considering raw-material availability, machine capacity, customer orders, and dispatch schedules.
• Raw Material Management: Monitor the availability and quality of coir pith/coir fibre, ensure proper storage, and coordinate with procurement to maintain uninterrupted production.
• Coir Pith Processing: Supervise screening, sieving, drying, cleaning, buffering/washing, and other processing activities required to produce consistent-quality coir blocks.
• Block Manufacturing: Oversee block compression, hydraulic/automatic press operations, block formation, cutting, weighing, and packing to ensure production specifications are met.
• Moisture & Quality Control: Maintain required moisture levels, EC, pH, particle size, expansion, density, weight, and other customer specifications. Ensure samples are tested and approved before dispatch.
• Production Cost & Budget Control: Monitor labour, electricity, water, packaging, maintenance, and other production costs. Identify opportunities to reduce wastage and improve cost efficiency.
• Manpower Management: Supervise production workers, allocate duties, prepare shift schedules, monitor attendance and productivity, and provide on-the-job training.
• Machine & Equipment Management: Ensure proper operation and routine maintenance of dryers, sieving machines, conveyors, hydraulic presses, compressors, packing equipment, and other production machinery.
• Breakdown Management: Respond quickly to machine breakdowns, coordinate with the maintenance team, identify recurring problems, and minimize production downtime.
• Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain production standards for different block types and sizes, such as 5 kg blocks, 650 g blocks, briquettes, grow bags, and customized products.
• Safety & Compliance: Enforce workplace safety procedures, PPE usage, fire-safety practices, machine guarding, housekeeping, and applicable environmental and labour regulations.
• Waste Management: Monitor coir pith losses, rejected blocks, spillage, packaging waste, and other production losses, and implement measures to reduce waste.
