Job summary

Hort Bio Technologies in Tamil Nadu seeks a quality control professional with 3–5 years of QC experience to lead lab testing and finished products inspection. You will supervise QC inspectors, ensure SOPs are followed, and maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities include raw material checks, production QC, batch documentation, calibration of equipment, and analysis to reduce defects. Willingness to relocate is preferred; candidates must be able to work on-site in Budalur.

Responsibilities

• Raw Material Inspection: ensure coco pith meets specs (moisture, impurities, particle size, color).
• Production Quality Control: monitor stages and machine settings; ensure SOPs are followed.
• Finished Block Inspection: check weight, dimensions, moisture, EC, pH, expansion, density, compression quality; approve/reject batches.
• Laboratory Testing: conduct or supervise coco peat tests and maintain records; ensure equipment calibration.
• Batch & Production Records: maintain QC inspection reports and quality documentation; prepare quality reports.
• Non-Conformance Management: identify defects, isolate batches, investigate root causes, coordinate CAPA; monitor reprocessing.
• Customer/Export Requirements: ensure product specs, packing, labeling; assist export documents; handle complaints.
• Team Supervision: supervise QC inspectors and lab staff; train on quality standards and SOPs; ensure PPE use.
• Calibration & Equipment: maintain calibration schedules for meters and testing equipment.
• Process Improvement: analyze defects; work with production to reduce losses; participate in audits.

Role & responsibilities

• Raw Material Inspection
  • Check incoming coco pith for moisture, impurities, fiber content, particle size, and color.
  • Inspect raw material for stones, plastic, sand, roots, and other foreign materials.
  • Ensure raw materials meet the required specifications before production.
• Production Quality Control
  • Monitor quality at each stage: screening, washing/buffering, drying, sieving, mixing, and block compression.
  • Check machine settings and compression parameters.
  • Ensure production operators follow approved SOPs and quality procedures.
  • Identify and report process deviations immediately.
• Finished Block Inspection
  • Check weight, dimensions, moisture content, EC, pH, expansion/volume, density, and compression quality according to product specifications.
  • Check blocks for cracks, loose material, improper compression, contamination, and inconsistent appearance.
  • Approve or reject batches based on defined specifications.
• Laboratory Testing
  • Conduct or supervise testing of coco peat samples.
  • Maintain proper sampling procedures and test records.
  • Verify testing equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Maintain traceability of test results to batch/lot numbers.
• Batch & Production Records
  • Maintain QC inspection reports and laboratory records.
  • Record rejected, reprocessed, and approved quantities.
  • Maintain batch-wise quality documentation.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports.
• Non-Conformance Management
  • Identify defective or non-conforming products.
  • Isolate rejected batches to prevent accidental dispatch.
  • Investigate the root cause of quality problems.
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Monitor reprocessing and verify the quality after correction.
• Customer/Export Requirements
  • Ensure products comply with customer specifications and agreed quality parameters.
  • Verify packing, labeling, palletizing, and container loading requirements.
  • Support preparation of quality documents required for export shipments.
  • Handle customer complaints and assist in investigating quality-related issues.
• Team Supervision
  • Supervise QC inspectors, laboratory staff, and sampling personnel.
  • Allocate inspection duties and monitor staff performance.
  • Train employees on quality standards, sampling, testing, hygiene, and SOPs.
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe laboratory practices.
• Calibration & Equipment
  • Maintain calibration schedules for weighing scales, moisture meters, EC/pH meters, compression/density testing equipment, etc.
  • Ensure defective measuring instruments are removed from service.
  • Maintain calibration and maintenance records.
• Process Improvement
  • Analyze recurring quality problems and production losses.
  • Work with Production and Maintenance teams to reduce defects.
  • Improve consistency of moisture, EC, pH, density, expansion, and block weight.
  • Participate in internal audits and continuous-improvement activities.
