Job summary

HBL ENGINEERING LIMITED is seeking a senior leader for Production Planning & Scheduling in Vizianagaram, India. You will oversee VRLA lead-acid battery manufacturing, optimize processes, and drive safety and compliance across operations.

The role requires 15+ years of lead battery manufacturing experience and proven leadership of multi-disciplinary teams. Strong focus on Lean, Kaizen, and OEE to meet production targets and cost goals.

Qualifications

• Diploma or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 15+ years in lead battery manufacturing.
• Experience leading large cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute daily, weekly, monthly manufacturing schedules across VRLA battery lines.
• Lead end-to-end lead-acid battery manufacturing processes.
• Drive OEE, minimize downtime, and implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen.
• Enforce lead-hygiene practices and manage air filtration and ETP compliance.
• Maintain PPE discipline, monitor blood-lead levels, and enforce safety standards.
• Ensure ISO 9001/14001/45001 compliance in operations.
• Plan preventive maintenance with engineering teams for critical equipment.
• Lead and develop a large cross-functional workforce.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

• Production Planning & Scheduling: Plan and execute daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing schedules across VRLA battery production lines to meet market demand, optimize resource utilization, and achieve production targets.
• Core Manufacturing Operations: Lead end-to-end lead-acid battery manufacturing processes, including oxide production (Barton and Ball Mill), grid casting, paste preparation, pasting and curing, battery assembly (COS and inter-cell welding), and acid filling and formation.
• Operational Excellence & Productivity: Drive Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), minimize equipment downtime, and implement Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce lead scrap, material wastage, and production costs.
• Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance: Enforce stringent lead-hygiene practices and ensure the effective operation of air filtration systems, dust collectors, scrubbers, and effluent treatment plants (ETP) in compliance with applicable environmental regulations.
• Occupational Health & Safety: Maintain rigorous PPE compliance, oversee blood-lead level monitoring, and implement robust safety practices to protect employees and ensure adherence to statutory occupational health and environmental standards.
• Quality Assurance & Process Control: Ensure defect-free battery production by monitoring critical process parameters, including grid geometry, paste density, curing moisture, and container sealing integrity. Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
• Preventive Maintenance & Equipment Reliability: Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical equipment, including casting machines, pasting lines, assembly lines, and formation rectifiers.
• Team Leadership & Workforce Management: Lead and develop a large, cross-functional workforce comprising floor managers, engineers, supervisors, and contractual personnel, fostering a disciplined, safety-focused, and performance-driven manufacturing culture.

Preferred candidate profile

• Diploma or B. Tech or in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience: 15 + years in Lead Battery Manufacturing knowledge.
