Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Production Design Engineer (Sheet Metal) with strong expertise in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and sheet metal fabrication. The candidate will be responsible for preparing production drawings, developing sheet metal components, supporting fabrication and production activities, and ensuring designs are suitable for manufacturing.

The ideal candidate should have excellent knowledge of AutoCAD (100% proficiency), SolidWorks, sheet metal design, fabrication processes, engineering drawings, and production support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate 2D production and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Develop 3D sheet metal components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings with dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and fabrication requirements.
  • Design and develop sheet metal parts, brackets, panels, frames, enclosures, cabinets, and assemblies.
  • Prepare sheet metal flat patterns and bend details.
  • Have strong practical knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Coordinate with the production/fabrication team to ensure designs are manufacturable.
  • Understand and work with laser cutting, CNC punching, press brake bending, welding, grinding, and finishing processes.
  • Review drawings and resolve design-related issues during production.
  • Modify existing drawings and designs based on production requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain BOMs, part drawings, assembly drawings, and revision-controlled documents.
  • Select appropriate material, sheet thickness, bends, fasteners, and fabrication methods.
  • Work closely with production, quality, and purchase teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Identify opportunities for design improvement, material saving, cost reduction, and improved manufacturability.
  • Ensure all drawings and designs meet company and customer requirements.
Required Technical Skills
  • AutoCAD – Essential
  • Excellent/100% working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Strong ability to create and modify 2D manufacturing and fabrication drawings.
  • Knowledge of layers, blocks, dimensions, tolerances, layouts, and plotting.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings accurately.
  • SolidWorks
  • Strong knowledge of SolidWorks 3D modelling.
  • Sheet Metal module experience.
  • Part and assembly modelling.
  • Flat pattern development.
  • Bend allowance and bend deduction knowledge.
  • Drawing creation and detailing.
  • Basic understanding of SolidWorks design modifications and revisions.

  • Knowledge of different sheet metal materials and thicknesses.

Educational Qualification

B.Tech / B.E. – Mechanical Engineering

Diploma holders with strong relevant experience may also be considered.

Experience

6–10 years of relevant experience in sheet metal design and production engineering.

Candidates with experience in sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing industries will be preferred.
