Job summary

SONA INDUSTRIES in Ludhiana seeks an experienced Mechanical Maintenance professional to manage preventive and breakdown maintenance of production machinery on the shop floor.

You will plan daily production activities, coordinate with operators, and drive TPM/5S improvements while ensuring safety and quality standards are met.

Qualifications

• Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 4-5 years hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance and production in automotive or auto-component manufacturing.
• Experience in axle manufacturing, forging, machining or metal components preferred.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems; maintenance of various machines and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of production machinery to ensure high availability.
• Plan and monitor daily production activities; coordinate with operators to meet targets.
• Allocate work to machine operators and helpers; monitor performance and adherence to procedures.
• Prepare preventive maintenance schedules; maintain maintenance records and spare parts inventory.
• Ensure machines operate within process parameters; support quality and safety initiatives.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

1. Machine Maintenance

• * Perform regular preventive and breakdown maintenance of production machinery.
• * Identify and troubleshoot mechanical faults in machines.
• * Handle hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance and troubleshooting.
• * Maintain induction machines, grinding machines, milling machines, SPMs and power presses.
• * Inspect bearings, gears, motors, pumps, shafts, belts and other mechanical components.
• * Ensure minimum machine downtime and maximum machine availability.

2. Production Management

• * Plan and monitor daily production activities as per targets.
• * Ensure optimum utilisation of machines and manpower.
• * Monitor production output, machine efficiency and rejection rates.
• * Coordinate with machine operators to achieve production targets.
• * Identify production bottlenecks and implement improvement measures.
• * Ensure timely completion of production orders.

3. Manpower Management

• * Allocate work to machine operators and helpers.
• * Monitor employee performance, attendance and discipline.
• * Ensure operators follow standard operating procedures.
• * Train operators in machine handling and basic maintenance.

4. Preventive Maintenance & Improvement

• * Prepare and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
• * Maintain machine breakdown and maintenance records.
• * Identify recurring machine problems and implement permanent solutions.
• * Maintain critical spare parts inventory.
• * Implement TPM, 5S and continuous improvement practices.

5. Quality & Safety

• * Ensure machines are operating within required process parameters.
• * Coordinate with the quality department to reduce rejection and rework.
• * Ensure machine guards and safety devices are functioning properly.
• * Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
• * Ensure compliance with factory safety procedures.

Preferred candidate profile

• Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 4-5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance and production in an automotive or auto-component manufacturing unit.
• Experience in axle manufacturing, forging, machining or metal component manufacturing will be preferred.
• Strong practical knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of induction machines, grinding machines, milling machines, SPMs and power presses.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance and machine troubleshooting.
• Ability to independently identify and resolve mechanical and hydraulic machine problems.
• Experience in production planning, shop-floor management and manpower handling.
• Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Should be willing to work on the shop floor and handle machine maintenance personally.
