Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Supply Chain/Commerce preferred.
• Experience in furniture manufacturing, interiors or building materials advantageous.
• Vendor network across material categories is a plus.

About the Role

We are looking for a Procurement Specialist to manage sourcing and purchasing for our furniture production. The role requires strong material knowledge, effective negotiation skills and close coordination with design, production and stores teams to ensure purchases meet approved specifications, budgets and manufacturing timelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Source materials, hardware, fittings and services required for furniture manufacturing.
• Identify, evaluate and develop suppliers based on quality, pricing, capacity and delivery reliability.
• Obtain quotations and prepare comparisons covering specifications, costs, lead times and payment terms.
• Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules and commercial terms with vendors.
• Coordinate with design and production teams to confirm material specifications and quantities.
• Arrange samples and secure necessary approvals before placing orders.
• Prepare purchase orders and maintain accurate procurement records.
• Track orders and follow up with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.
• Plan purchases with stores and production teams based on stock availability and manufacturing schedules.
• Coordinate with the quality team and suppliers to resolve shortages, defects, incorrect supplies and replacements.
• Work with accounts to resolve invoice discrepancies and coordinate payment schedules and supporting documents.
• Maintain updated supplier databases, price lists and material information.
• Develop alternative suppliers and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining approved quality standards.

Required Skills

• Strong sourcing, negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Ability to understand material specifications and bills of materials.
• Proficiency in Excel for quotation comparisons, purchase tracking and reporting.
• Familiarity with purchase orders, invoices and inventory records.
• Strong follow-up, communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to manage multiple orders and adapt to changing production requirements.
• Experience with procurement or ERP software would be an advantage.

Material and Procurement Knowledge

Candidates should have a working understanding of:

• Solid wood, plywood, MDF and veneers.
• Upholstery fabrics, leather, foam and cushioning materials.
• Metals, fabrication processes and finishes.
• Marble, natural stone and glass.
• Furniture hardware, fittings, adhesives and finishing materials.
• Material grades, specifications, quantities and wastage allowances.
• Supplier lead times, minimum order quantities and transportation costs.
• Quality requirements and their impact on purchasing decisions.

Candidate Profile

• A diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Commerce or a related field is preferred.
• Previous procurement experience in furniture manufacturing, interiors, building materials or a related industry.
• Experience working directly with suppliers, manufacturers and production teams.
• An established vendor network across relevant material categories would be an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail, commercial judgement and organisational skills.
• A responsible, proactive approach to purchasing and supplier relationships.
