Job summary

Our client, one of India's leading beverage alcohol companies, is seeking a Plant Head to oversee an integrated facility comprising a Distillery, Captive Power Plant, and Bottling Unit in West Bengal. You will own end-to-end operations, safety, quality, cost optimization, and administration.

You will drive profitability, lead a multidisciplinary team, manage industrial relations, ensure compliance with statutory and environmental norms, and partner with government authorities.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; DIFAT preferred.
• 18-22 years in integrated manufacturing; 3-4 years as Unit Head/Plant Head in a Distillery.
• Proven expertise across Distillery, Captive Power Plant, Utilities, and Bottling operations.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and regulatory/government liaison experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end operations of the Distillery, Captive Power Plant, Utilities, and Bottling Unit.
• Meet production, quality, yield, efficiency, and profitability targets.
• Own unit P&L, budgets, productivity and cost optimization initiatives.
• Ensure asset reliability, plant availability, and maintenance standards.

Position Overview

The Plant Head will be responsible for overall leadership, operational excellence, profitability, statutory compliance, and administration of an integrated manufacturing facility comprising a Distillery, a Captive Power Plant, and a Bottling Unit. The role demands end-to-end ownership of manufacturing operations, safety, quality, cost optimisation, people management, industrial relations, statutory compliance, government liaison, and local administration to ensure sustainable business performance.

The incumbent will serve as the overall custodian of the unit, drive operational efficiency, employee engagement, and continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end operations of the Distillery, Captive Power Plant, Utilities, and Bottling Unit.
• Deliver production, quality, yield, efficiency, cost, and profitability targets.
• Own the unit P&L, budgets, productivity improvement, and cost optimisation initiatives.
• Ensure high standards of engineering, maintenance, asset reliability, and plant availability.
• Drive operational excellence, digitalization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory, excise, environmental, safety, labour, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead industrial relations, employee engagement, and workforce productivity while maintaining a harmonious work environment.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with government authorities, statutory bodies, local administration, and other external stakeholders.
• Oversee unit administration, security, housekeeping, transport, and other support services.
• Develop leadership capability, succession planning, and a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Provide timely MIS, business reviews, and strategic inputs to corporate management.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering. Additional DIFAT (Diploma in Fermentation & Alcohol Technology) preferred.
• Experience: 18-22 years of experience in integrated manufacturing operations, including a minimum of 3-4 years as Unit Head/Plant Head of a Distillery.
• Technical Expertise: Proven experience managing Distillery, Captive Power Plant, Utilities, and Bottling operations, with strong exposure to industrial relations, statutory compliance, government liaison, and factory administration.
• Soft Skills: Strategic business leader with strong commercial acumen; proven ability to drive profitability, operational excellence, and organizational transformation; strong leadership, decision-making, stakeholder management, and people development skills; hands-on approach with high ownership, execution excellence, and integrity.
